Because with Corvettes nothing goes wrong. So there is not much to talk about. Hints, tips, general chat, meets etc. In the TVR forums there is a hive of activity. Make of that what you will.....hehe But i have met some great people over there. Which just started out as a trading of knowledge.

.. and from the very man that was telling everyone he was getting a Z06 last year and has been trying to sell his C5 for almost as long...!

I think most of the fun went away when Stratstone pulled the plug on themeslves at Reading and Park Lane. (At least I think PL have given up trading new Vettes)?

I felt this forum changed for the worse during the Stratstone bashing era, and the sometimes superfluous, flippant and occasionally antagonistic intervention by others who were often bickering. However, Pistonheads is a great site and I still lurk around other areas.

BTW shouldn't that be "cue" Vet Guru??

You're thinking back to the bad old days; it's all changed now. This I know. Because having just seen the BBC Ten o'Clock News headlines the newsreader was performing in front of a screen bearing the huge headline "DAMMING REPORT". This is new spelling for a new Britain!

Back to the topic - for me all Corvettes have the same appeal regardless of age, condition or price. When the forum becomes dominated by a few loud voices waving their money and toys about it's not for me! Hopefully the worst offenders have lost interest and gone away.....

Couldn't agree more Steve. I'm looking forward to adding some 60/70's Corvette's to my collection too. I trust you and yours are up for the 4th of December XMAS din-dins?

Nige, who's T-Rex??? Before my time I think.

It's very odd. When I had the C5 Z06, the main forums I used were the American ones. When I took the decision to change to the Mustang and modify it, I now have a choice of two UK Mustang forums, any number of American Mustang forums and if I wanted to, any of the general Yank forums. In contrast, there's bugger all for Camaros in the UK.

So the answer is to buy a Mustang. wink

I don't see how the dealers can be blames (of which I was a significant part ...) for the demise of banter on the forums. (However, the dealer slanging matches which occured later were of no interest to anyone!)

There are no dealers these days on this forum, so what has happened to the threads???

Modern Vettes are pretty spot on out of the factory (unlike mustangs etc), so there is no real need to mod the car unless you are that way inclined.
As has been mentioned the C5/C6 rarely goes wrong, so there aren't many discussions to be had.
This forum has rarely seen much interest from early generation owners, who will always have a list of ongoing projects.
Vettes are no longer being sold officially here, the Euro rate means that the amount of cars about has been decreasing, and the dollar rate has limited fresh imports, so there are now fewer owners than 18 months ago.
Other than the pricey ZR1, there have been no significant changes to the current line up, giving no reason for discussion about new cars.

Look at how much traffic the cccuk forum gets.......

I'll try as someone who was around more in what some of us would call the heyday of this forum. (and will try and do it as objectively as possible, since we're all valid to be here)

Basically, what I will call the old forum had a group of enthusiasts who had competition from the outside world in the form of all Yanks don't handle, a niche product that was mostly supported by the owner and his/her garage, and a pretty much united group. Questions were necessary calls for help, and many of the people were doing really interesting stuff to their cars (e.g. Cliff and Gixer tuning theirs up, Nigel (aka VHR) who can't leave anything alone etc.) And of course the humour.

So what changed, well, through no fault of their own, allowing the dealers to move in. The success of the newer generation of Corvette commercially. The demise of TVR (they made good fun rivals, other times just rivals!). It changed from an atmosphere of appreciation for how someone had done something, or something interesting with their car (trip/track day/accident/tune up/show etc.) to one where more time was spent talking about the 'right price for this' 'this trader has got to be joking' 'bet that car's crashed' and 'this dealer has given me poor service'

Sad to say, purely as an observation too, I don't really know if the C6 generation is necessarily a great mix with the ones that came before. It is just an observation, last thing I'd say is that I think many of the old guard would buy a Vette regardless of whether it was truly a good or a bad car, I think a significant proportion of 'newer owners' will jump ship as soon as a better alternative comes along, let's face it, with the loss of people like TVR, there isn't many value for money alternative choices about for front end characterful performance.

Just observations, feel free to tell me I'm completely wrong/deluded or just out of order.

You do crack me up sometimes Fran.

Are you referring to the cars or the owners? I am trying hard to think of why a C6 owner (if you are referring to the owners rather than the actual model) that would "jump ship when something else better comes along" more so than a C3/4/5 owner would?

As you say, maybe it's just your observation. If it is, then I wonder how many you have personally observed because I can't think of any C6 owner bar one, (who thought a Boxter would be a better drive after his new C6, then turns up at the Surrey meet hinting quite strongly that if I wanted to sell my Z06 could I give him first refusal).

Indeed, I do remember a chap called Steve who had a superb chrome bumper C3 who hated it almost from the start and tried for over a year to pass it on to get into a Porker, which he eventually did (and good luck to him). What mix would he fall into?

Just because an enthusiast has the money to buy a C6, Z06 or ZR1 it doesn't make them any less passionate about the marque than if a crusty old C4 was the only Vette in their garage. We're all enthusiasts and as such should respect not only the model for whatever its worth, but welcome and share stories with each other. To think any other way, in my opinion, just highlights the bad side of someone’s make-up, whether it be envy, jealousy, lack of respect for your fellow Vette owners vehicle or any other unfortunate trait. Purely my view on the matter of course.

I think regardless of model 'vette owners are nice as pie, or at least the ones I've met are. I think only one has been a PH'er though. Hopefully I can join in one day, but being almost 18 means I've got a little bit of waiting to do.

Quick question, for some of your meets is it purely Corvette owners or can an avid enthusiast come along?

George.

Steady on George. Nice as Pie?!

You would be very welcome to join in the evening at any of the Corvette Clubs up and down the country I am sure. My two locals are Thames Valley (that is probably the nearest to you) and the Surrey Region, in Cobham. If you want more details look further down the index for Corvettes and you will find all the info there.

You'll be given a warm welcome, Vette owner or not! (Unless you turn up in a crusty 'ol C4 that is......)
