I'm in the middle of booking a trip to California, and just need a little info on boot space in a C6 convertible 'Vette before I commit to hiring one (hence 'boring' in the thread title).

Is there room in the back for a couple of 32"x16"x20" cases? It might sound a stupid question, but I had a C5 Z06 which had a large-ish trunk, but the opening wasn't particularly big. I'm guessing that a convertible would be compromised on space. The alternatives don't bear thinking of (Buick Lucerne/Ford Fusion etc).

32" is the measurement from the inside back panel to the bits that jut into the rear.
That's with the panel down so the top will not be able to be operated.
Distance between the wheel arches is 42" so you are ok with the two 20"
The depth is 11"....So it's "no go" for the thickness of your cases.

I assume that 16" is not a typo, them's thick casesbiggrin

The dodge caravan does come in a variety of colours though. (sorry)

Coupe maybe.
Even with a coupe if you take the top off and store it you have less usable space that a soft top.

Throw your hard cases in the bin and use squashy holdals for the trip - you'll get more than you want in the back of a C6 that way.

Thanks chaps; might be do-able. Typo on the depth; they're actually 12" deep. They are Samsonite clamshell hard cases, but they're the lightweight ones, so there's a little bit of 'give' in 'em. Don't know whether we'd need the hood up or down during February, and I think Avis only rent the convertible.
As for having holdalls/soft lugagge; nice idea, but try getting that one past Mrs. Tuono.

The size of the boot opening is likely to be the show-stopper. You might get one of the cases in, but the second could be problem.

I notice you're in Dorset which isn't a million miles from the Thames Valley meet - if you'd like to try fitting your cases in a C6, I'm planning to be there on Wednesday with my C6 convertible.

The widest part of the boot is 54", narrowing to 41" between the wheel
wells. The boot is 10" high, reducing to 5" when the roof is lowered, and
it is 31" deep/18" of which is not affected by the roof.
Is this understandable?

James

- you can pack a lot in there but a rigid volume can be a problem. Two large 15kg bags of dog food fit in OK, as do squashy bags - I've never tried suitcases.

James took some more photos if that helps??

Cheers,

Rob

Thanks everyone. Convertible's definitely out then. Don't think they rent a tintop (plastictop?) so I'll have to see if anyone's doing the new Camaro. Problem being, if I like it, I'll have to have one over here. That LSx motor's addictive..........
