Saw this terrible news today over on Daily Sports Car .com

It’s been a trying season for Luc Alphand Aventures in 2009 and the news earlier this week from the team that their FIA GT nominated Corvette C6.R had been destroyed in a transporter fire as the car was en-route to Albi for this weekend’s FFSA GT weekend, was yet another blow with the car only recently having returned from a post Le Mans rebuild at Pratt & Miller.

Tyler from Corvette Motorsport forwarded this image which clearly shows the extent of the damage both to the team's truck and to the Corvette (chassis C6.R 003), this the car used throughout 2009 for both FIA GT and FFSA GT campaigns.

Head over to Corvette Motorsport.com, for a potted history of the car, now, it seems, at the end of a very successful racing career."

The team have apparently now confirmed that the car is a write-off and whilst there is, as yet, no confirmation of their plans with their remaining car (chassis C6.R 004), there is a tough decision to be made, not least because the team have a very tight racing schedule indeed with 004 at Albi for the FFSA GT meeting this weekend, followed immediately by the Silverstone 1000kms next weekend and then the FIA GT round at Algarve the following week.

Sources suggest though that the team intend to race at Silverstone so UK racegoers look likely to get one more chance to see a classic C6.R vs DBR9 endurance battle

That is really really dreadful. Fingers crossed they can get back on their feet again. Wonder if insurance will cough up?

Now that is a painful sight. Although in the current economic conditions I wouldn't be surprised if there's a slightly higher claim rate for fire than usual.

Can't see why insurance wouldn't for this though?
