A week or two back a neighbour [I don't know too well] crossed the road as I washed the car to say they were having a run out [Hes the North East Rep for SLK World and the organiser] from Scotch Corner across the Butter Tubs Pass then over to Ripon..... Thirsk up Sutton Bank across to Pickering and ending at Whitby "Come along if you like and Bring any other Vettes."
I Contacted BlackZed C5 Z06 and Akeith with his Black C6 Z06 [We had chatted on the Forum but not as yet met] and away we went.....Here's three Corvettes and 15 SLK'S meeting on Sctoch Coners Car Park.....our little Group and there rather larger gathering..... we were a little Stand off'ish at first but soon mingled and we 'tagged' on the end as the convoy set off a a 'brisk' pace .....The roads not really that suitable for the Vettes ....especially over the Butter tubs with Dave's car Bottoming out over every other Hump! We then had Keith Lead the way after a slight diversion....and away he 'set' the pace before Brisk now described not as Fast or Very Fast......But Blisteringly Quick [he's a Hooligan!.... me and Dave Joked] as we tried to Hang on!! Turns out Keith is a bit of a performance Driver and has had a few courses on the Track.......All Good Fun. Anyway we caught up with the Convoy at a Huge Rate of Knots! We had a Great day out........ finished off with a Fine meal of Fish and Chips!!! in the Pub..... Would we do it again?.... Hell Yes! We are looking at Cars in the Park at Harewood Leeds on the 13th September [Anyone else going?]....should be good.....
As 15 SLK'S and three Corvettes went though one Village Packed with Bikers one of the SLK owners heard a Biker shout "F$£@ me a it's a Hairdressers Convention!"

I think I need some of those frame protectors if we go that way at that kind of speed again smile
That or a plank of wood nailed on.

Dave.

Oh, it's just that I think you'll find quite a few 'old dear's' and old gentlemen own Corvettes too. More so than young deers in fact.

And I suppose having seen a couple of friends only last weekend who have the same car you mention (SLK200) - who kindly let me have a go, I can agree, it's quite a nice (and typically technology laden) car, not necessarily my total cup of tea, but then again it'll do just about anything in any conditions, including top down by the looks of things (Merc's air scarf is a pretty clever device). They weren't old dear's either. And personally, I like the front end too, with it's links to the SLR in styling terms. Probably a more accepted front end than GM's effort on the C6.

Next time I see a 2 litre Corvette drive past me I'll give it some more thought.

I guess that'll be some sort of GM cost cutting measure then.

Thanks to them for the Invite.....it will definitley 'Pal' Dave myself and Keith up for the Odd weekends Spirited Drive [or in Keiths case 'Kamikazi mode'......for us that is ....he seems very safe.....it was us poor Chumps Hurtling along with a Manic Grin in his wake!!

Now do me a favour Ken, don't tell me he was driving an SLK200... 'cause if he was you weren't trying hard enough!

this could have something to do with minor issues such as affording an expensive car and the subsequent insurance and maintenance bills.

What a fine trio of cars! Very good images too - the weather was perfect for you.

By the way Ken I got out my USA front number plate yesterday and thought now how the hell am I going to cut a perfect straight line with no marks at all on a bendy plastic plate holder? I put it back in the drawer, maybe another day. Perhaps I'll send it to Francis he looks pretty handy with spanners and things....

I did find using a die grinder (or a dremmel if you have one to hand) with the small black cutting disks do a great job. They don't really apply any pressure to flimsy flexy placcy things. (I need to stop being an anorak, got to go - going off to make a Tracey Island in the shed)

No actually that is very helpful and a method that I wouldn't have thought of so thank you for that. I just had visions of messing up a plastic holder that I bought from the US in about 30 seconds flat! I don't know if you have seen Kens front number plate "conversion" but it really is a good job and finishes off the front end of the car very well.

Hi Martin ..........Dremmel, That may be the way to go ....I 'Scored' a line at 3.5" [Actualy just about an 1/8 inside so the 3.5" plate would overhang very slightly the 'new' Holder]and then popped it in the Vice [Gripping the bit that was about to go in the bin and set away gently with a 'hacksaw' moving the holder up in the vice to keep the bit being sawed 'firm'
A little rub along with wet and dry to clear the Burr and 'Wallah'...... Be Brave and just do it! Dremmel or Hacksaw it's for the Chop!
The end result...............a 13.25 X 3.5 Plate

Good Pic's Dave and your right it was No SLK up ahead!! Demon Z06 ....
