Anyone going to Fighting Torque on August 16th?
Discussion
Weird. I've done a search on PH and can't find any threads at all relating to the event, yet I'm sure it has been discussed extensively on PH before and a lot of participants have come from this forum.
Site says it is absolutely on: http://fightingtorque.org/fast/index.php?option=co...

Gone a bit quiet all round on here for sure! - Can't see a FT thread for this year.
Here's last year's http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Torque 2008
Its is an excellent event - I've been there for the last two years and had a great time - good fun if you are so inclined, and a fantastic opoutunity to let it all hang out, without fear of Officer Plod spoiling the plot!
Not much chance of getting your pride and joy harm's way and a good opportunity to see some really fast stuff chance their arm down the mile straight !
Saw quite a few PHers there last year, and one or two Corvettes - pretty sure mine was the only C6Z06 there at the time.
A lot more Z06s about now, so hopefully there will be one or two turn up to fly the flag.
Sadly this year I won't be one of them
Street Attack motor is in the car at last, Kookes headers, Ron Davis rad, Penske shocks, Pfadt rollbars ect are fitted too - still to finally finish installing ARE sump system, and of course set up and map the car.
Won't be ready till the end of Aug
So! - to all those very friendly PHers I chatted with last year - cheers! - I'll miss you this year
I know I was talking about this lot then, and it has been a long road to here - but I'll get there
Out with the old - in with the new!

I wont be there...
Although maybe their timing gear will work this year, and maybe it will be a mile long too !!!!
That would be handy at such an event.
The event will be much less of an attraction with your absence, Stevie - you were the 'Star' of the show last year, no doubt - I was amazed how well your car went!!Although maybe their timing gear will work this year, and maybe it will be a mile long too !!!!

I remember chatting with you about your mechanical gremlins in the layby after the event, and wondering if you would actually make it back home - you made it I see!
Fantastic! - true grit! - you should write a book!!
I heard that this year, as well as perfecting the operation of the timing gear, the organisers were going to install an altimeter at the strip in anticipation of your return, so that they could measure your height off the runway surface, at the end of the mile
Cheers to a true competitor!

Wow John, that looks fast just sitting on the cradle. God help you when it's in the car. It looks set to be illegal at tickover and capable of warp speed when pushed. Any idea of the power output? Here's last year's http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Torque 2008

It's Katech's Street Attack spec, David - probably about 100 horsepowers over standard - who knows, it all depends on who's Dyno its run on.In the Renaissance young 'blades' I understand, resorted to the Codpiece in order to enhance their 'streetcred' - today it's all change, and the young 'blades', and indeed some older ones too, now have - Le Dynoplot for the same purpose.
Of course as always, when dealing with these considerations, - size matters!
Trouble is, you can walk into a pub, strut your stuff up to the bar, and calmly announce - " Err umm - I've got a 900 brake Gazmatron mk4, Jimmy" - and these days nobody even bats an eye!!! I ask you!!
I prefer to think, true to the spirit of the long departed W.O., that the power at the top end - will be adequate
As far as the tickover goes, well,as Noel Coward said to his young friend - "It's all in the tune dear boy"

Did you ship over a complete engine from Katech or did you get it assembled here?
I preferred to have the work done here so as I could keep an eye on operations so I shipped over the parts and proceded as follows.I kept the standard engine in the car, and bought a complete new LS7 here to work on
That was stripped, balanced, blueprinted and reassembled with -Standard GM LS7 crank - Katech 2618 forged 11.0/1 pistons - Standard LS7 Ti rods with modded small ends, DLC coated pins, Katech HT rod bolts, Clevite bearings, and ARP bolts/studs etc.
Katech Torquer cam, Manley pushrods, PSI single beehive valvesprings with Ti retainers.
Lingenfelter ported heads, ported TB and Intake manifold - Killerbee cold air intake setup.
Kooks stepped headers with wideband bung, X pipe,100cell cats, and Corsa backboxes.
Exedy GT04SD clutch, and LG carbon fiber propshaft.
ARE stage3 drysump system with external scavenge, Ron Davis custom radiator with high capacity coolers.
All the other stuff like ATI damper, Katech custom painted rocker covers, and coil reloction brackets etc ----
err! What credit crunch - don't tell the wife!!
Needless to say, it's not been cheap but it's something I always wanted to do, so what the heck!

Blimey! Sounds like it would have been cheaper to have shipped over a complete engine!
Who's doing the building and who's going to do the tuning?
The price of a Street Attack unit outright starts about $24,000 and then proceeds vertically upwards depending on final spec!Who's doing the building and who's going to do the tuning?
Then all the shipping and import charges - and of course if you have problems with it, it is a long road to send it back!
You can get very high quality assembly work done here in the UK, and if you have problems then you can go and talk to folks face to face.
As I am committed to the car and plan to keep it long term, I wanted to have the luxury of a spare engine and parts to fall back on, just in case I hit mechanical problems with the new unit, or I have problems sourcing parts as a consequence of the present difficult circumstances surounding GM's business dealings.
Roger at Monkfish is supervising the project, and Paul at Wortec will map the car
Sounds nice mate, did you consider a 4.1" crank?
Also nice solid build. How come you didnt just bolt on the trick bits to your block? Are you expecting to thrash it within an inch of its life? By all accounts the new LSX102 Fast intake is better than the stock one, though doesnt look as nice

Steveturbo, Carl won the trophy this afternoon in his GTS,
199.98mph across the line so close to the 200..
Nooo! He must have been gutted! Bearing in mind some of the timings seemed a bit out, it wouldn't have surprised me if he actually exceeded 200mph. 199.98mph across the line so close to the 200..
Phenomenal car. I love the way he put "600hp" down so as not to scare the organisers!
More like 600hp per bank...
I only managed a puny 174mph, but still pleased considering the sum total cost of my mods is £1150!
