Corvette Cruise to Leeds Castle – in KENT (NOT LEEDS!!!) SUNDAY 6th September ‘09
Leeds Castle Maidstone Kent ME17 1PL Tel: 01622 765400
PLEASE NOTE THE ENTRANCE TO THE CASTLE & FOOD FESTIVAL IS £16.50 PER PERSON! (or ONLY £11.50 for 15 or more...)
Yet another FANTASTIC Venue for our Corvettes to be dragged off driveways on a bright and sunny September Sunday.
Leeds Castle has got to be one of the most beautiful castles in Great Britain today. Not only is it huge in size but it is still in one piece – not all bits of rubble! Inside is even more breathtaking and should not be missed.
The reason for choosing Sunday the 6th is that on that day there is a large FOOD FESTIVAL which, if a couple of years ago is anything to go by, offered a superb opportunity to taste hundreds of samples of REAL FOOD (no Big Macs, sorry Dave & Rob) for FREE!!
It’s called the “Plant to Plate’ Food Festival” and is described as “a celebration of local produce, sustainability and traceability, and all the best of today’s farming in the heart of the garden of England”. Advice and ideas from the experts to inspire along with tips on beating the credit crunch by growing your own. Sample the finest food and drink from local suppliers and further afield, including Leeds Castle’s own sparkling white wine. There will be a HUGE marquee with at least 40 traders.
For those of you that haven’t been to Leeds Castle before it is an amazing structure and the surrounding grounds are superb. Having the Food Festival on site makes it even more enticing.
Don’t forget TO PACK YOUR PICNIC – Leeds Castle welcome picnicking (is that a word?!) and have several areas set aside with tables if you prefer, or do your own thing with stuff from the depths of your Vette...
Unfortunately parking will have to take place in the main Castle car parks but I’m sure most of us will arrive at similar times so we should all be able to park together. If we can say all try and arrive from 10:30, to finally enter at 10:45 and wait to see if we can crack the minimum 15 persons and save ourselves six quid per person!
The usual meet at the Fairmile should take just over an hour to get there and is under 60 miles. Suggest meeting at around 9:00, leaving 9:30. For those of you that wish to meet at Clacket Lane Services en-route, we aim to be there at 10:00, leaving at 10:20. All regions welcome especially Surrey, Thames Valley, Essex, Sussex and Kent of course!

A good turnout with 32 adults and 4 kids.
A big thanks to all that made the effort - it was great to see members for Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex and Thames Valley altogether including at least two new members and their wives. Also to poor Alfie and Val from Thames Valley who turned up at Clackets' in their superb C2 only to break down, missing the whole day. "The cushion on the differential front mount bracket parted company so the prop shaft hit the transmission tunnel on the M26". Alfie was flat bedded back home by the AA and no doubt had in fixed before Sunday night finished!
The weather was spot on and all enjoyed a picnic afterwards. Needless to say the long line of Corvettes caused quite a stir with cameras going off all the time and even people came up to us as we were wondering around the Foodie tents congratulating us on our cars!
A big thank you to Leeds Castle who made the day a pleasure also with the promised parking away from the main parking areas and welcoming us to the site.
Video to follow of course when henry has finished editing....

For those of you that couldn't attend (and indeed the ones that did), here's a video Henry made earlier...
This evening that is.
