Hi folks,

Has anyone on here imported a Corvette from the U.S? What are the costs involved?

What shipping options are there?

I don't have recent shipping figures but as a ballpark figure a 20ft container is usually $1200-$1500
Insurance is 1-2% of the value (optional)
if it falls off the ship you have lost it.

Import duty is 10% of the invoice + shipping + insurance
Add that lot together and then add 15% VAT !
costs at this end normally run to £250-£350 on top
THEN you have to SVA it if it's under 10 yrs old - up to £2k
Still interested ?

Eh, probably not, no.

Such a shame that the taxes are not more reasonable.

No. But you'll almost certainly still find it cheapest to buy a car in the UK while the Dollar and Euro are strong. (That's why Europeans are buying up all our Vettes smile )

There was a topic on here ages ago about the C6 I think the electrics were the expensive bit.
I personally have done trucks for around a hundred quid but thats was mainly labour as you can move the rear light designations around ( reversing lights become indicators etc)
It could well cost less (bloody hope so !!)

I Imported a C5 Z06 in October 2004. The car was £19,000 at the time. By the time it was legally on the road, it cost £26,000. You can get a rough idea of a price by adding 30-35% to your purchase price.

I bought a set of Euro rear lights (from Eklers), side repeaters, a foglight and did the work with a mate following LuS1Fers instructions (he had carried out the operation a few months earlier and wrote an excellent guide).

I think the pound needs to get back over 1.75 dollars before it starts to get worthwhile again.

Corvette prices in the States don't seem to have been affected by the "global downturn".
The cheapest place to buy a 'vette is the UK without question.
If you can find one before the Germans do of course.

I imported my C6 Z06 from the US last year.

Roll On Roll Off Ferry from Baltimore to Liverpool takes about 11 days and costs £500 (or at least it did last year) with Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

SVA work cost about £1600 at Teslayn Engineering near Bicester, they will also present the car for the SVA etc.

SVA no longer exists you will need to IVA the car which is more expensive I believe, but not having had to do it due to rubbish £:$ rate not imported anything since the rules changed in April this year.
