Fresh from Autocar (who brought you the Z06 versus 911 vid) is this vid of a ZR1 versus a GT2. They declare it a draw, and it's fairly even-handed, but you can't help thinking that a concrete runway isn't the ideal surface to launch a ZR1 on... Interestingly, it's not the same ZR1 that Evo tested, so there's more than one press car doing the rounds.

Same car - they bought the number plate for it...

I don't understand why it's 'honours even' when the vette is clearly quicker and on proper tarmac, with a decent driver it would no doubt win both comparisons!

Aha.... Makes more sense now (that it's the same car)!

Those Autocar tests are abit rubbish, just seems aimed at making the Porsche look uber...

Do they just do one of these drag races or do they try more than once?

And surely the gun didn't gun the ZR1 start as quickly as was in the Porsche? And what rpm was Corvette driver shifting at?

P.S. I don't dislike Porsches, but tbh I am thinking Autocar are bunch of...

There's a mediocre, poorly informed review of the ZR1 in Autocar this week -
"Unlike the fastest outgoing Corvette..."
"...which retains a composite leaf spring at the rear..."

In their 'Half-Price Heroes' article the Z06 is mentioned (at £39,995 for a 15,000 mile 06 plate) -
"This 7.0 Vette may have just been replaced....The ZR1's arrival is likely to prompt trade-ins, so prices will come down...Do worry if there's damage to the carbonfibre wings; they cost a bomb to replace."

Autocar are too busy wetting themselves with excitement at the prospect of an Aston Martin badged Toyota IQ to spend time doing proper research...

Well said. I wonder who told them the Z06 is now dead after being replaced by the ZR1? I better move mine on if it's now "obsolete"...

Oh, go on then. I'll take your old obsolescence off your hands for a very generous 5k before it really plummets in value wink

It is nothing to do with the surface, as I managed better figures from my stock Z06 on the exact same piece of road, two up with a full tank of fuel, and stock run flat tyes.

0-60 = 3.89
0-100 = 8.1
1/4 mile = 11.79 @ 123mph.

If you can't break past the 12 second barrier with a Z06, you are not getting the most out of it.
If you can't break the 12s in a ZR1, then simply you can't drive properly.

The ZR1 goes 0-60 in 3.3, 0-100 in 6.9, 1/4 in 11.2 @ 130,and outbrakes the GT2 when tested by magazines that know how to drive.
End of story

Does anyone else have problems with playing the Autocar vids? On my connection, I only get the first 20 seconds then it freezes and never carries on.

Stupid proprietory video. Why can't they use a system that you can pause and buffer like everyone else?

I had that problem for a while then it just went away...so never figured out exactly why it was happening.
