I thought a Z06 was only available with a manual gear-box, the car sounds rather like an
automatic, on a test-drive in Germany the manual box was not so fast, well, the
car was a new demonstrator, but great souvenirs :-))

The car is heavily modified...including an auto box. It's the only sensible option for really fast cars (over the 1/4 mile anyway).

can anyone tell me what car is running in that vid? cant get YouTube at work... frown

There are quite a few guys swapping Auto into Z06 cars these days. the auto boxes (inc the TH400 i think) can take ALOT of torque! plus they suit drag racing. Also brill for turbos as you keep the throttle wide open during shifts negating lag of even very large turbos.

Cheers

Chris.

It is a C6 Z06, with the more modern 4L80E auto and a blower. The 6L80E is also a good basis for drag racing, it has 6 closer ratios, rather than 4., and you can use the paddle shift system to operate it too. Indeed, you can add a paddle shift to any of the 4L60, 4L80 or 6L80 thanks to aftermarket parts from companies like TCI who make beefed up versions of these trannies for drag racing.

TCI name this the "6x" and it can take up to 850bhp, and fit behind a small block, big block, or LS motor.

A high stall converter and trans brake make for launches that manual gearboxes cannot match, and as you say, you can stay on the gas for the whole pass without fear of over revving or hitting the limiter.

I have a TCI Streetfighter 4L60E with a Gear Vendors overdrive, giving 8 ratios.

I have them set up with a button shift mounted on the steering wheel at present, but eventually will swap to paddles.

The car should be coming here on 12th July, I have an appointment to get a quote for the flat floor, which can be worked on while the body panels are painted. I will tinker with the interior while all that is going on, and then I will press the car into use to promote the website thing I am now doing later in the year and in 2010.
