I'll be in California for 2 weeks in September and Hertz have ZHZ for rent. Are they worth the $2,000 it will likely cost? Anyone done this? (are the cars shagged out, for example)

You need to post this over on the CCCUK website as a number of the members have done the ZHZ thing.

Here's a link to a previous PH thread:

which links to my report on the CCCUK site:

I had a great time - although it was just after they started renting them and the car was new.

Go for it!

I hired a convertible through Avis in March and it had less than 2000 miles on the clock (interestingly the leather on the driver's seat seemed very worn for such a small mileage) and it was far from shagged out. In fact the experience is making me consider buying a Coupe.

If you want top down cruising (or blasting) around CA or AZ then I would recommend the convertibles from Avis since they dont have the give away "I'm a rental car" yellow n' stripes colour scheme.

I'm hiring a convertible Corvette C6 from Avis when I'm in California in August/September. Avis cars don't stand out as "Hire" cars like the Hertz one's do. Had an Avis Mustang convertible in LA,Vegas and Route 66 last year and it was like new. thumbup

It's certainly worth hiring! biggrin

My girlfriend hired one for me as a birthday present from Miami and managed to get it for a very good rate, £450 for a week I believe? Not bad considering I hired a Mondeo in the UK for 2 weeks and it cost me £800.

Anyway, the ZHZ we received had covered around 15,000 which was slightly concerning as I expected it to be in a bad way but it was in fantastic condition.

Switch on the competitive mode (i.e. turn all the toys off) and it's great fun to chuck around some bends. smile

Oh and no, chucking it around doesn't mean I was constantly thrashing the nuts off of it and performing standing burnouts. wink

I just booked a ZHZ convertible for a week while we are in Cali & Nevada. Less than £100 seems like really good value to me. Looking forward to it!

Not sure how useful the drop top will be in December but they didn't have any hard tops left!

had two different ZHZ in Vegas in feb. one was in like new condition, the other one was pretty trashed - hood was not properly working, the tyres were gone, interior looked tired. anyways, sooo much fun so definitely worth it.
The first thing you have to do when you get it is the exhaust mod - open the fuse box (in the passenger footwell) and remove the fuse for the exhaust butterfly control. this way you gonna have it nice and loud all the time...SWEET
if you want to max it out, you need to remove the traction control fuse as the car is limited to 145 or 150 mph (wouldn't recommend tho, the fines there are pretty steep)
