C4 ZR-1 opinions please
Discussion
Hi Guys
Over the weekend i had the pleasure to try one of my friends 1996 Corvette Grand Sport.
This really stirred something in me, and made me think of maybe getting a C4 ZR-1.
Right now i have a Dax Rush, and iam aware that the Corvette is a whole different car, but it still felt very capable. My question is if any of you have tried both a "Normal" LT engined C4 and a ZR-1?
How big of a difference is there? Also any general thoughts or comments on the ZR-1 is welcome.
Thanks
Dennis

Have driven an LT-1 (and have the older L98) - and been a passenger in a couple of ZR1's. Night and day is what I'd say the difference is, it doesn't look a lot on paper (300bhp vs 375 - 405 bhp) but it's significant on the road.

Nice cars. All I would add is make sure you drive a more modern Vette at a similar price before you make your decision on which model is best for you. The base C5 has a chassis which is more than a decade newer and in round numbers the same performance as a ZR-1. You can go upwards from there through C6 Z06 and base C6 without the price rising too severely.5 USA said:

I don't think you'll be missing out on any performance with a ZR1 against anything more modern. 0-60 is a 4.3 second trip (don't believe one of the old reviews that actually claims a 0-60 the same as the base L98 auto).

I've found a couple of red ones in Germany. Totally original one with 45.000 km's and one with 73.000 km's. They cost respectively 25.000 Euro and 23.000 Euro.

This one also looks nice, but i don't really like the colour, and also i like the 90's frontend better

Allthough the green one is starting to grow on me, it really does look mint.
Anyways i haven't done anymore than that, and haven't put my own car for sale yet, allthough i might have a potential buyer.
One last thing that concerns me a bit, it the cambelts on a beast like that, i can imagine that it would cost a fortune to do, and that it will be a very big job. Does anyone know a price on the parts (DIY) and how big of a job it is. Also how long is there between changes.
That could be a factor that would make me look at LT4 engined cars instead, but i just love the fact that the ZR-1 has all these small different details. It is cool that you can recognise them on the black strips between the numberplate and the reverse lights.

Like the front plate position.I've used the "number plate is in the car cos it the sticky pads lost the sticky" excuse. I ran a "64 coupe withe two strips of double sided low on the front chrome and no plate,I never got stopped but "it fell off,you can see where it was stuck on" would have been the reply.
I'm not sure you would get away with any of that now with the rozzers having ANPR.
Didn't the Illinois state police have something similar way back in 1980 ? SMARTS;-)
