An amusing story related to me this evening by one of the transport drivers who has been collecting and delivering cars for Top Gear.

He was asked to collect the Corvette for the Corvette vs Fiesta in the shopping mall race. He turned up with his open wheeled transporter and the owner refused to hand the car over. The owner of the car insisted that the transporter had to be an enclosed one in order to protect the Corvette from any damage. The transport company had to provide another transporter in order to collect the 'Vette to deliver to Top Gear.

I wonder what the owners reaction was when he saw the final programme? furious

To be fair to TG, things aren't exactly what they seem when they're being filmed. After all, driving the car through a pile of teddy bears isn't exactly going to cause a lot of damage, and I suspect that the shop fittings that got hit were probably only made of polystyrene, but the thought of the owner screaming at his television set as he saw his car being hurled through a shopping mall.

This was on Top gear in 2008 (Unless you're Sam and just watched it on Dave) paperbag

IIRC the hardest time that C6 had was collision with a selection of cuddly toys!

It's not like the good old days....

My wife's old boss had a Jaguar e type he lent to Top Gear quite a few years ago. They killed it and subsequently it needed a new Head Gasket!

Rob, I think the driver may have been telling porkies... The Vette in the mall was Top Gear magazine's long-term test car!
