I was just accelerating up a motorway on ramp and the check engine light came on. All temps and levels OK.
Does anybody know a qiuck fix to put it out or does it need an OBD 2 ?

Switch the engine off if it still shows check engine get someone with a Tech 2 to have a look for you. it could be loads of things even a faulty 02 sensor.

Could be a fuel issue, amongst many other things. Did you just fill up? May be either the fuel cap (loose) or overfilling... having said that, the check engine light is simply an indication of something wrong (i.e. could be an o2 sensor).

Unfortunately the C6 doesnt have the same ability to display error codes in the same way as a C5 apparently, so you will need to get a garage to read it for you.

Fingers crossed it is something simple.

I had run it nearly empty on the M25/M11 and then put £30 in at Birchanger.I did another 70 miles before it happened.
For what weird reason would the fuel tank/cap cause the light to come on !

Check DIC codes yourself and see what is it. Then You know where to search.

Knock sensor (O2), more common reason for the random 'engine check' light...
Relatively cheap too...

Very common on American cars. There's a vapour trap at the top of fuel tank to catch any unwanted "emissions". That's why you shouldn't go on filling the tank after the pump clicks off. See the final paragraph under this link (or just Google),

http://www.samarins.com/diagnose/checkengine.html

IF an open fuel flap or a petrol overfill has triggered the light then it should go out after a while if you remove the cause everything else is OK. Doesn't go off straight away.

I have managed to extinguish the light through the DIC fault code section.
The battery had been run almost flat when I picked it up so lots of body codes.
The key two codes were,as predicted by Vet Guru, both O2 sensors related.
They where PO137 and PO157,both O2 sensor circuit low voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2 and Bank 2 Sensor 2)
Runs fine without reoccurring faults,I will take it for a rest run later.
Thanks to all concerned

You also need to see if the codes have 'C' or 'H' after them.....'C' means current and 'H' means history....obviously 'C' ones are the only ones you need to worry about.

If I get the "check engine" light come on I immediately pull over, raise the hood, make sure the engine is still there and then carry on driving....
