Bit of a vent coming...

I've recently been out driving the C6 and chanced upon fellow Corvette drivers (C3s) on two separate occasions. On both occasions, I flashed and waved and received zero response from the other drivers! My girlfriend suggested that, if I see either car again, I should wave once more and if I don't get a response, convert the wave into the finger!

If you drive a Vette and you see another Vette coming the other way, it's nice to acknowledge each other!!!! If only we had more of the biker camaraderie.

Strange ? I always wave at other American vehicles, let alone vettes, and always get the same response back. Maybe the ones you met are wrapped up in their own little worlds and prefer it that way, which again is ok if that's what they want.

They may have been in shock at actually seeing another Vette on the road smile In the year that I've had mine I've only seen one other on the road (Vette gatherings excepted) and by the time I realised - it was on the M3 with a closing speed of XXX mph! - it was too late to wave. Now, if it was slow-moving traffic then they've got no excuse.

I think you've been unlucky Ian - I do flash my lights and wave and get a response, ditto when I used to drive TVR's. Certainly the bike thing was 100% but that has gone a lot too although still pretty responsive. Add the flash - maybe that will do the trick.

The waving is alive and well with the Smart car brigade,I bought four recently to sell and,as they had tax and petrol and I am from the North,I couldn't resist.
I was pleasantly suprised to be waved at enthusiastically by several attractive young women in Smarts who no doubt thought I must be kind ,attentive, loving etc because I drove a Smart.
And I thought Fanny Magnets HAD to have a V8 !!

I should add that both occasions were in slow-moving (<30mph) estate/town traffic and I flashed as well as waved, although the wave was a 'extend fingers from steering wheel' job, rather than a fully-fledged arm in the air wave. Still, the flash on its own should've been pretty visible. Next time, I'll flash like a maniac and wave properly, just in case. At least my conscience in clear!

Cheers,
Ian.

Waved at by women who thought you were kind, attentive, loving and in touch with your, ahem, feminine side laugh

lol, my missus is with me DESPITE the fact that I drive a big, thirsty, V8 that makes lots of noise and has 2 doors. She's a bit of an environmentalist but, deep down, I think she quite likes the attention the Vette gets and the coolness factor, even though she'd never admit it!

PS. Chevy need to work on wind turbulance in the cabin with the roof off so significant others don't moan about the prospect of their hair being messed-up if we want to take the roof off!

They were probably on the ragged limit, concentrating on not ditching the car. They're not quite as well sorted as a C6, you know ;o)

Always wave when I see another Vette and reckon to get a response about 50% of the time.

Since I sometimes don't see other Vettes until they're almsost past so don't have time to wave it's always possible they were waving vigorously for 30 seconds and went away thinking "miserable ***!". For that reason I like to pretend the ones who don't wave at me just didn't notice the car.

I sometimes find myself mistakenly waving at these going the other way,

They never wave back so presumably have better eyesight than me or truly are miserable ***s!

Are you talking about the girl or the RX7?!

Yes, they do look very much like the fron of a C5 at first glance. I've almost been caught-out a few times with them coming the other way.

Is it really such a big deal?

not everyone buys a car to be part of the 'Corvette crowd'

I am aware of others driving the same car & give a raised hand, if nothing given in return then so what?

ffs what does it matter? it sounds like its really upset you, which is a little bit 'star trek' TBO biggrin you even talked about it with your girlfriend and had a plan for the next time rofl come on!!

You obviously don't wave back then!

No, it's not a huge deal... I was just venting because I just consider it rude and obnoxious if you're ignored, that's all. Just comes down to manners and I'm principled like that (unlike a lot of people these days).

To turn your argument on its head, is it such a big deal to wave back???

PS. I didn't go into a big debate about this with the missus... she was in the passenger seat at the time and she thought it was rude, too.

Don't think I'm some saddo with nothing better to do cuz nothing could be further from the truth! rofl The world is already too full of miserable buggers... if you drive a Vette and see another one, WAVE (or at least nod/flash/smile or SOMETHING!)

you need to read Ian wink

agreed there are a fair few miserable buggers, some are not aware of others in the same car though & to see the same car would not necesarly mean anything to them, they are not being rude, they dont know you confused they may recognise their friends & wave to them? as that is who they choose to wave at, where as you choose to wave at fellow owners (like me)

Not sure telling people that they SHOULD wave just because they own a Vette is your call really, do you?

didn't say you whent into a big debate with your wife, just that you discussed what to do next time, as it happens I didn't mention the fact that you suggested to give them the finger! slight over reaction to the fact that someone didn't wave at you, dont you think?

As of this moment I am leaning toward you being a bit 'oversensitive' to say the least.

I'll try not to think of you as some sado biggrin honest smile
