Hello to all in vetteland,

This is probably a question which is a FAQ but I would appreciate if someone could advise me as to what oil they would recommend. I have recently had a brand new LS3 engine put into my TVR Cerbera and am currently running it in (brilliant engine BTW). Soon it will need it's first oil change so I looked on the Opie site and for the 5.7 ls1 they came up with Motul Ford specific 913b 5w-30. Anyone out there recommend any other good quality oils.

Cheers, Ant. wavey

I understand GM EURO Corvette spec oil is Mobil 1 0-40

Yup, just chuck some Mobil 1 in it.

It doesn't matter whether you use the US spec' 5W-30 (which is what Opie are trying to replicate) or the European version 0W-40. Both are equally suitable in the UK climate. The thinner US version just wrings out the final fraction of fuel efficiency by being easier to stir.

(Some people have a downer on Mobil 1 but I've never been convinced of their reasoning)

Thanks guys for your opinions. I,ve used mobil 1 synthetic in my other engines (past) and still have plenty in store so I'll keep using it. Cheers for the help. smile

I did not reply earlier as mine is an LS1, so there may be differences, but after 120,000 miles plus on Mobil 1, my little lump is still as sweet as a nut

(oh.... what have I said?). awaits horrible noises today

Been looking at oils myself over the last few days. Some of the guys on the US Corvette forums reckon the Mobil 1 oil isn't the same formulation as it used to be and used engine oil analysis tests are showing a high iron content in the oil which is indicating greater engine wear. I ordered some 5W30 Castrol Edge oil yesterday for my LS6 engine.

I have a plentiful supply of Mobil 1 in my garage that I sourced throught North Hants Tyres, as they import it direct from the USA as a result I use the stuff GM say you should.
Having said that unless you plan to track your car pretty much any brand of synthetic oil of the right viscosity and temperature range should suffice. As 5 USA mentioned the only thing you might notice is a slight change in the fuel consumption.

Just checking the post again and it seems the oils are pretty much the same standard, viscosity and temp range so I'll put in some mobile 1 0-40 full synth and that should do the job. As for the mpg, I don't think that's a significant factor when 15mpg could become 16.

Thanks again, unless anyone tells me Nnnoooo..
