Yep. Got booked up about September I think. Heading down Wed evening to a nice hotel in Calais (honestly, there are some), then to the track on Thur lunchtime. Leaving Monday morning and camping at Terte Rouge hopefully.

It's not going to be on the same scale as 2008 though so no fridge, generator, gazebo or dubious barrel bbq. The 9m Corvette Racing flag pole will of course be on display.

Rob, what's the deal with Gerard and the Corvette Europe/France this year?
He used to email me, but that was on my now defuct Stratstone account. I sent him a message last week but he hasn't replied yet.

Thinking of going again (even though I didn't think that I'd bother for a few years, but the combination of Vettes in GT1 and a few mates wanting to go has swung me).

"Well, not much to say yet, unfortunately. It looks like there's a strong will to do it at GM Racing, but as you know, people would be quick to say that we used bail-out money to play with racing cars!
I should have official infos in February, after budget review. I estimate chances at more than 50%, so let's keep the lines open!

Talk to you soon

Gérard"

Got confirmation. This year I'll be mostly drinking in Terte Rouge and the Stella Bar......oh yes and the gem of a cider bar by the Dunlop Bridge.

I just received this press release from Motor Racing Legends regarding how car clubs can arrange to drive the full Le Mans circuit right before the race. For those of you going, this might be an amazing feature of your trip this year....

Drive The Le Mans Circuit For Yourself 05 Feb 09

Each June, Motor Racing Legends – organiser of the historic support race at the Le Mans 24 Hours – also runs a Le Mans tour for members of car clubs. Uniquely, the trip includes the rare privilege of driving on the full Le Mans circuit on the Saturday morning of the 24 Hours weekend, before the start of the world’s greatest endurance race.
In the past, the tour has been arranged for a specific marque – in 2008, for example, the Ferrari Owners’ Club was invited to put together a ‘grid’ of its members’ cars, and more than 60 Ferraris – from F40 to 355 Spider, F430 to Challenge Stradale, 328GTB to 550 Maranello – took part.
But 2009 will be different. This June, Motor Racing Legends will run a multi-marque Heritage Parade, accepting applications from classic and modern cars – marques with a traditional link to Le Mans, from Aston Martin and Ferrari, to Jaguar, Bentley, Austin-Healey and many more.
With the roads closed to traffic, it’s an emotional journey: accelerating down the famous Mulsanne Straight, tackling the fast, sweeping Porsche Curves and cruising past the towering grandstands along the pit-straight. To quote just two participants from last year’s trip:
“Having watched the race for years from the other side of the fence, I will never ever forget the experience of heading down the start-finish straight at speed… It was difficult to comprehend that I was actually there.”
“There are very few people who get to drive the full circuit on the weekend of the Le Mans 24 Hours, with all the public roads closed, unless they’re actually racing there. It’s a fantastic experience and a great privilege.”
In addition to the parade laps, drivers can opt for a 4-night, 5-day fully inclusive package of travel and accommodation, or just a circuit and hospitality package. This covers entrance tickets to the Le Mans 24 Hours; reserved, covered grandstand seats; full circuit hospitality in a private facility shared with the Le Mans Legend historic race drivers and teams in the centre of Le Mans circuit, just a stone’s throw from the track… plus a post-parade champagne breakfast, Saturday evening buffet, Sunday barbecue lunch, along with secure and fully guarded circuit parking. Or you can choose just to do the circuit laps. Prices start from £775.
To be an integral part of this exceptional weekend, or for more information and a brochure, contact Lindsey Warren at Motor Racing Legends, on +44 (0)1293 871568, or email lindsey@motorracinglegends.com.

"Or you can choose just to do the circuit laps. Prices start from £775." Does that mean that circuit laps alone costs £775? eek

I shan't be going this year alas, not least because I might not even still have a Vette by then.
Shame because Gerard promised those who missed out on a track lap last year top priority this year...

The Ferrari boys, who admittedly must have paid a lot for the privilege, got several laps last year at racing speed, i.e. as fast as they wanted to go! Which sounds a lot better than what a (very) few of the Corvette participants got to do.

To be very honest, I personally find watching racing, particularly endurance racing, very boring. I would always much rather be out there doing it!

I agree, Bonneville especially is something you need to take part in, rather than watch!

On the whole, I agree. However for me, Le Mans consists of three days camping with mates, catching up with people that I only see at Le Mans (once every 3-5 years) and about 7 hours of racing -

1 hour watching in the start in/around the grandstands
2 hours watching some night racing (at about 10pm)
2 hours watching racing early in the morning (about 4am) at the porsche curves, end of mulsanne, arnage - very easy to drive around at this time
2 hours watching the end of the race

Le Mans is also an excuse for a road trip.
This year I intend to be in Biarritz by 10pm on Sunday, Barcelona by 4pm on Monday (taking the twistiest route possible over the Pyrennes) and Paris by 4pm on Tuesday, heading back to London on Wednesday evening for work on Thursday.
Anyone care to join me?
