I relaise this is incredibly cheeky and the mods might remove it but ...

I have a C5 Convertible Salvage for sale . Its 90% complete.
VERY rare to find a salvaged C5 in the UK . And with the $£ now at 1.4 anything in the UK has to be good.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/847873.htm

I doubt it would cost very much to get this car back on the road ... great winter project.

So many questions !

The W in the VIN number suggests it is a 98MY. Plus those wheels are early, so would be unlikely to be found after standard rim design was changed for 2000.

Having run the VIN on GMVIS the car is a 1998MY originally supplied by a dealer in Denver, Co. A warranty claim in Feb., 2001 puts the mileage of the car then at 33,000 then. Apologies if my comment is unwanted but I genuinely believe this car is worth more broken for spare parts. At £6,500 the cost of putting it back to roadworthy condition would leave it owing whoever bought it pretty much the same money as an undamaged example.

Hi Neil, hope you're well.

Have you decided not to put it back on the road yourself then? I remember you were always saying you were going to put it back together for your own use?

It'd be a shame if it was broken for parts - black/black vert is a lovely combo and there aren't enough vettes on UK roads as it is!

Cheers,

Chris
(had the black 98 C5 in Ncl)

Hey Chris , how are you , do you still have your vet ?

Well as you can see its almost there but not quite. I moved to london a few years ago and left the project with my dad. We just lost mommentum really and as i'm not up north very much and dont use a car in london we've decided to sell . Its a shame really i was really looking forward to driving it !
I also qualified as a pilot so i'm looking to buy into a aircraft which isnt cheap .

The cheapest C5 convt on autotrader is around 15k so this 6.5k car i dont think is bad value.

Yeah i'm good thanks!

Haven't got my Vette anymore unfortunately, sold it about 2 and a half years ago and jumped into a GT3. However i've sold that too recently as I need to get back into a Vette! I'll be on the hunt for a C6 Z06 as soon as my house rennovations are done and I'll have some time to use it!

Shame you won't get to drive the Vette, but a plane is reasonable consolation biggrin

I doubt it's impossible, though I honestly wouldn't know, I wouldn't want to try. I don't think it's one that I've come across though I have seen a few. In my thoughts it isn't cheap enough. You can U.S. imports similar to that without a story for the same money now.

Noting that it is a Euro spec. car you need to know what accident damage there was as there is every chance that elements of its warranty will be in question. Whilst the seller claims OEM parts have been used you'd need proof and depending on the damage to drivetrain and chassis this could cause complications too.

Whats confusing me is this:I contacted the guy and he said it was a US import(which they all are if you see what I mean, maybe thats what he means) that he bought over here.
He doesn't say if he is a US serviceman or if he bought it damaged in the UK.
I stated in my email to him that it was Euro spec,he didn't deny it just told me the above info.
Are headlamp washers an option in the states ?
I will endeavour to get the VIN.

Well it certainly looks like a Euro car. Headlight washers aren't an option in the U.S. I can't think of anything that GM build out there that they are available on strangely enough.........

Mitch you could be wrong that rear end is a US rear, but some one may have fitted it later as they do look better but there are other clues speedo etc but not sure about them all, I have a full Euro spec ordered new from Germany.

As discussed elsewhere my favourite identifier of a euro C5 is tow hooks. If no tow hooks it's not a Euro vehicle (unless you can see they've been hacked off). Checking the RPO codes would be the final proof.
