Anybody bought a ZR-1 in the UK yet?
Discussion
Half the 09 model year allocation for the UK has been sold.
That leaves two 09s and six 2010 model year cars.
It's unlikely anyone will be able to beat the UK price now that we have the dollar at better than 1.50 to the pound and the euro down around 1.16 to the pound.
We know that the car is a sell out in France and selling well in the rest of Europe.
In the US, the current average transaction price is over $140,000

You need to be careful with VAT on cars.
Dealers can declare VATt in different ways. Most use VAT on profit method so don't think you will automatically get a reduction on a new or second hand car sold in the UK.
My brother just bought a car and the dealer said they had made a loss (Part ex for 81k and sold for 75k) so no dealer VAT let alone 2.5% reduction.

It's different when talking about secondhand cars. Not to be confused with new. The VAT implication on a new car is pretty straightforward.Dealers can declare VATt in different ways. I've just bought one!! It's not in the UK yet. They haven't been changing hands for $140,000 for a long time, there's currently over 40 unsold cars sitting gathering dust in the US. I had many dealers hounding me for weeks trying to sell me a ZR1 from them at list price??! I even got a few goodies thrown in with mine for free, I almost got a discount on one, but a big guy at GM put a stop to it, threatening the dealer to take action if he did. That leaves two 09s and six 2010 model year cars.

Perfect time to buy a car in the US at the mo! Yes the exchange rate is poor, but the discounts being offered more than make up for this...also the 15% VAT rate helps too

I'm in a good position where I work in the US once or twice a month, so I'm back and forth there. i also get paid in US$ and have a company set up over there, so my hard earned US$ can be spent on my toys!
I will also get to use my car in the US for a few months, then when shes ready to come home I'll enjoy a 4 day road trip across the US....my treat! So why not !
I have a very good contact at GM in Europe, not the Corvette department but general GM. People presume the warranty wont be covered, but with some hard pushing things will get done. GM don't want a lawsuit thrown at them, especially with a safety issue, so will oblige. In the very worse case scenario, say if I kill the engine, it only costs £600 to have the car shipped back to the US to have the warranty work carried out, yes its a pain but also a safety net + I'm in the US all the time anyway!
There's also a misconception that the lights need changing? They are exactly the same units as in US spec cars, just realigned my GM guy confirmed this, check the part numbers!
I'll post pictures when I collect her

It certainly is still possible to get the car at a lower price than officially available over here. The warranty is an issue but there are very good aftermarket warranties that will cover the major problems. Corvette will cover all recalls in the UK on any corvette for fear of legal action.
We are in the process of securing one for a client and the saving is worth having although not as good as it would have been had we been back at the lofty pound levels of earlier this year.

Sorry John but this is simply not true. There are part numbers which only apply in Europe and a U.S. dealer would not be able to source certain market specific parts. U.S. cars have flat beam headlights with no bias towards the left or the right.

Do they cover transmission failures? I would also doubt that aftermarket warranties will cover anything to do with carbon ceramic brakes, which given their cost would be a sifnificant concern to me if I were buying a U.S. car.We are in the process of securing one for a client and the saving is worth having although not as good as it would have been had we been back at the lofty pound levels of earlier this year.
I've just worked out that a fully optioned ZR1 at todays VAT rate sold at list would still owe you around £105,000 in the U.K. Surely this doesn't leave you room for a margin when our list OTR is £106,690??
