Anyone considered a Diablo?
Discussion
reminds me of the 360's i used to own, the service costs depressed me....added to the fact i was worried about putting miles on them for resale, could park them absolutely nowhere, parts are not as robust as on the vet and while the vet usually gets an positive response from people the 360's rarely did!
dont get me wrong im a petrolhead and would absolutely love any lambo from a countach on at some stage but only as a 3rd car and after this economic downturn...........

I was wondering if anyone here has gone from a vette to a Diablo as I am thinking of doing it? Or even thought of it but changed his mind?
Yes my fun cars go in this order -Camaro - Corvette - Porsche - Corvette - Skyline - Viper - Diablo - Koenigsegg
Have owned the Diablo 3 years now and the running costs/service have been much better than I anticipated. I still love Corvettes and I had my second Corvette a 95` LT1 as my daily driver for 6 years but the V12 Diablo VT feels, sounds and handles so much better.
There is no true comparison.
The Vette is a great daily runabout with the necessary comfort and space, especially when your wife goes shopping. The power output in mine is greater then our Lambo, but then it has been supercharged to 620bhp.
The Lamborghini marque can be a temperamental Italian lover. Well engineered and handling far better than the Vette. Don't get me wrong, the Vette is the best American car I have ever driven and can handle the Swiss Alps, nearly as well as the Lambo. All this comes with a high price tag, which is what you expect with an Italian supercar. If you want a crowd puller and be noticed, go for the Diablo, especially if it's in a vivid bright colour. Otherwise, keep a semi low profile and enjoy a true American muscle-car.

Having been lucky enough to drive both, the Diablo would be my choice, the gear change and steering on the Diablo are fantastic compared with any vette. The Diablo has a very small luggage capacity compared with the vette, it also drinks more etc. but the noise it makes is epic, it looks fantastic and you can do a week of hard driving i.e. 3000 miles through Europes most demanding roads and it will cope just fine. My only advice would be buy a left hand drive one for European trips as I so needed the vette when it came to overtaking L'Escargot (French motorhomes as they became known) on the Route Napoleon.
I am lucky enough to have both. An 06 Z06 owned from new and a 93 Diablo owned for the last 9 years. The most annoying thing I read about the Lambo is the running costs. In my experiance the Diablo has NOT been the money pit that people [who maybe don't own one] talk about. My car costs me on average just under £500 a year on servicing and mot. That's it, no clutches or horror stories at all.Insurance is half the price of the Z06. The Lambo starts every time and runs like a daily driver. 2 years ago at shoreham she ran avery easy 12.1 at 119mph and recorded 170 at dunsfold. Whilst being noise recorded for juiced 2 [which is another story] I was told she was producing just over 500 bhp, not bad for a 15 year old car! The Z06 is a fantastic car. I would not wish to choose between them. I just love my cars.Enjoy which ever decision you make.
I did almost what the OP is asking about. I had a '72 convertible Vette that I had mildly customised. I spent 6 years restoring it and loved it to bits. I never thought I'd change it, until I realised I could just about to afford my ultimate boyhood dream car - a Countach. I've owned it for around 18 months now, and after 1200 miles I have no horror stories or huge bills to report, but then it only had 2000 miles from new when I bought it. Yes, parts are obviously more expensive - you're talking about a limited production, hand built exotic supercar, so you'd could realistically expect bigger bills. But what a car to drive. The sense of occasion is beyond antything I've ever had before and I truly cannot imagine selling this. The Diablo is a great car and can be had for less than a Countach now. My car has appreciated in value by around 15-20K, the Diablo is still just about depreciating. I considered a Diablo, but it's not the poster I had as a kid, so stuck with my dream. I say go for it if you really want one, you won't regret it. A friend tried to talk me out of it before I bought my car, by giving me the keys to his low mileage C5 Z06. I have to say that was a fantastic drive and is a faster accelerating car that my Lambo for sure, but it's not the same. For doing lots of miles and pure speed enjoyment I'd say the Vette has it. For the sense of occasion, and the sheer grin factor, the Lambo has it by miles. It also attracts far more attention than the Vette ever did, which is either a good or a bad thing, depending on your view point
Damn, I'd so buy a Countach....like you, I would make any sacrifice for that car but not a Diablo. Then again, I have long been converted to the view that modern cars, whilst more capable, are less characterful and too competent to be fun.

you would expect to pay around 35k for a diablo.
Any Diablo you could buy for £35K would be a shed, and undoubtedly the money-pit that so many seem to think they are. You'd be doing well to get a Diablo for £35K that would even get you home. You'd need to budget £50K as the minimum for a good one.
