LT5 Engine info
Discussion
Can anyone supply me with the physical dimensions and the weight for the LT5 engine (as fitted to the original ZR1 Corvette (was it a C4?)?
I'm thinking of trying to purchase one for a mid engine installation.
(I've heard of them used in Ultima's, does anyone know what transaxle they mate them to?)
And the last question .... I would imagine I would need to purchase from the USA .. what could I expect to pay for one?
Thank you in advance,
Nifty.

See (currently) two posts down about LT5 Zr1 repairs - but the people you want for an answer are Gixer, and Cliff, the latter I think has some LT5 bits that may help.
Yes - it was fitted (only) to the C4 ZR1, 1990 to 95 I think (sure about beginning, might be a year out either way on the end of the run), normal C4's had first or second generation small blocks.

Given the rarity of LT5's and their complexity over modern LS engines, I would have thought using an LT5 was more trouble than it was worth??
To be honest you are right, but it's not so much the complexity - it's also parts availability and expense. Unless you have an LT5 fitted already, I've heard the argument - why use an LT5 when the newer engines are less complexed and more affordable to obtain power from. Not forgetting the LT5 is now an 80's design, having said that it's one main advantage is it's a very pleasing engine to look at with it's 4 cam valve covers and intake system.Edited by ZR1cliff on Monday 27th October 11:36

Surely you'd struggle to find an LT5 to buy now?
You can still buy them if you are willing to ship a full engine in from the U.S, but with so many more affordable and plentiful other engines on the market is it worth it for a new build ?Note; not trying to put the OP off, just being realistic.

But they look so much better and nothing sounds the same as an LT5 right up on the cams at 7500. I'm guessing an LS is a common engine choice in those cars. Maybe he wants to have something a bit different. Be room for turbos on that kind of install as well;)BTW Cliff, gaskets arrived this morning
Here's a 1940's custom pick up, note the lack of plastic engine covers -
