Most expensive repair on your corvette?
Discussion
Luckily I've never had to pay for anything other than regular servicing (thanks to warranty and insurance cover for windscreen). I dread to think how much the warranty work cost on my C5 (at least 3 replacement diffs, top-end rebuild, etc), but never saw the bills. The guy at Autoglass did show me the invoice when I had my windscreen (HUD version) replaced, which I recall was around £2K...you could double-glaze an average house for that much!

I had a diff under warranty too (and a battery) but otherwise completely trouble-free. Coming up to 10 years old this car has a stunning reliability record, albeit with low mileage. GW65 said:

I think Autoglass were taking the mick out of somebody for that windscreen. I go through them all the time on the racing car and they don't cost anywhere near that. Who did the diff replacements on the C5?? Alot of these were done badly, leading to repeated failures........Edited by mitch_ on Tuesday 21st October 15:15

Around a £1000 fitting a new (well, new to the car) engine. Engine was £600... (Bit cheaper than an LT5 eh Cliff!)
(Labour was me, 2 friends and Sciencebird - who claims here abilities with flat pack furniture helped her reassemble the inlet manifold...)

I think the C5 diffs did not need replacing just a new seal, But lack of knowledge and training at that time made it easy to claim under warranty for a new Diff.
Yes, there was a common diff seal problem but no, my car had bigger issues. The dealer at Milton Keynes had a couple of goes at the seals but it made no difference and eventually my mates at Vauxhall's Luton plant took the car in to look at themselves. They had it a few dayts and discovered the metal of the casting was porous, allowing a small amount of fluid to drip. So a new diff was shipped from USA and fitted at the Vauxhall factory workshops. Nice and dry ever since.Problem with repairs is that you will normally always choose to upgrade while you're at it and that tends to lead to more money.. For me the current new engine we're assembling will be the most expensive thus far.. Can't say how much yet (still ordering shiny parts) to go inside the engine..
Hmm, yes, but he would've had a totally different car, been a further £25k + out of pocket, and wouldn't have had all the joy of building what was already an iconic car of it's time into something even further improved...
... and I understand it was giving many a Viper a challenge on a recent roadtrip.
Gixer, I think the engine rebuild in particular is calling it a repair the sort of thing you say to the taxman, it did come back, er, a bit pokier than when it left...

Sounds like I would have spent my money on a Z06!!!

Bearing in mind my fastest run was missed off the timming sheets in Germany. My 2nd fastest time was a tenth slower than the Z06 fastest time if I remember correctly.
The Z will not go. Would I buy a Z06 in future? probably not, more than likely an SRT10
