Yes ringram, I know EFi Live is supposedly better, but the cam I have just ordered from the US is best tuned by the guy who supplied it, Carlos from Vette Air/Quality Motorsports and he uses HP Tuners.

Try Peter Knight at Knight Racing services.

When I had my LS7 tuned he was only using motec but was in the midst of doing a power conversion for corvettes using standard ECU

Alternatively try one of the Monaro tuners.

But how can he tune it if he's in the US? EFI live uses a Roadrunner live tune which I imagine would speed up your tuning time and lower your costs.

Via email. He sends over an approx tune, I drive the car with laptop attached and capture a couple of runs, he reads them and tweaks the tune.

HP Tuners is very similar in concept to Efi Live, but sadly the two are not interchangeable, i.e. he will not be able to fine-tune my car via Efi Live at my end and HP Tuners at his.

Oh dear, truly a sad state of affairs smile

If you want someone with HPT skills talk to Mr Wortec, they use HPT and have tuned various Lsx vehicles including 900+BHP LS7 turbo etc.

Whats the cam spec David? Secret? Was the Lingenfelter one too small?

Ill have an LS7 in my vxr8 soon so we can compare notes.. Goal is to break 500rwhp

So a Katech engine is off the cards then David? Are you adding anything other than a cam?

Yes, I can't justify buying a new car/engine from the US with the current exchange rate. It's suddenly got a LOT more expensive!

So keeping the faithful Black Beast and putting a Stage 2 ARE dry sump kit, QM600 cam from Quality Motorsport/Vette Air and the old Lingenfelter CAI, 160 stat and (slightly dented by the exiting piston parts) American Racing headers from the old install. Oh and will be using proper Motul motorsport oil.

Should be good for 540rwhp, i.e. faster than ERICTHEVETTEKING'S one! wink

I just hope I got a good batch of pistons in this one...

what dose the Stage 2 ARE offer over the standard dry sump setup??

Chris.

The weakest point of the standard set up (which is only a semi-dry sump I understand) is the pick ups and lack of baffling in the pan at the bottom of the engine. This can allow air to be sucked into the tank under high g loadings.

The tank itself also has inferior de-aerating properties, which again can lead to frothy oil being sprayed onto your bearings rather than nice liquid oil.

ARE sell some nice replacement parts that are track proven, Stage 2 is the top pic:
http://www.drysump.com/kit2.htm

None of this is necessary if you don't fit stickier tyres or use it on the track.
GM's stuff is fine when used as it was designed with standard tyres/suspension.

You'll have to buy the VCM suite product $499 to do both programming and scanning. After that it's just e-mails.

It's reasonably straight forward to use

You'll need a friendly MOT tester with that cam ( and cats of course )

As Richard says, Wortec are the HPT guys here in the UK.

Although it would be a sad day, if only one person could "tune" your choice of camshaft. Does this mean he is travelling over from the US to do it ??
Or are you relying on email tuning ?

There is zero chance of that passing any MOT test even with cats IMO. Looks like about 20* overlap at 0.050 which is more like 100* total.

David is that 550rwhp in US numbers? (ie) 500rwhp Dyno Dynamics style. I recall your guys stock Z06 put down ~405rwhp, did you get numbers after the cam kit? Was it 460rwhp?

.. just being nosey.. I have an LS7 build and am hoping to break the 500rwhp mark on vixpy's dyno dynamics, cam is 230/238 0.647 lift though with 6* overlap or there abouts. LS7 intake has been ported by LS2 Portworks, running 1.7/8 full length headers into dual 3" exhaust and mafless otrcai (similar intake setup to c6)

Post up your numbers/dyno sheet once you are done, Id like to compare torque curves to see what how the cams compare.

Whilst I know that you wouldn't engineer engines for road cars like we do for the racing car, I find it quite interesting that our last LS1 produced 579Bhp and 540lb.ft. at the wheels......

You mentined an ls7 figure on another thread which I though was highish. What dyno was that recorded on if you don't mind my asking?

Dynojet rwhp figures can be considered as flywheel figures over here.

Of course, all the dyno numbers really mean diddly squat.

Its how it performs on the tarmac that matters.
