As with the price of C5's coming into a better price range how many of you still have a C4 or maybe thinking of getting a C5?
I know with the ZR1 guys most have given them even more power!
The C4 still looks a nice car and even better as a 95/96 but are still a great car as a daily drive?

I've surprised many a C5 owner down the 1/4, they all have the same gutted look when they catch up.... my standard answer is always 'what the C4 oh its stock'... he he he...

I've had a go in C5's C6's and Z06's, would love a C6 or Z but the budget doesn't run to that, plus running 12's in the 1/4 in a 14 year old vette that owes me less than the 5th of a Z is such a blast..

Well, Mum has a C5 convertible - yes, the C5 is an improved car - HOWEVER

The C5 is closer to driving a 'normal' car in feel, whereas the C4 is pretty different as an experience.

Mine's a Z51, so benefits super stiff roll bars, a higher spring rate than stock (for the year, they always came down year on year, think 84 stock is stil harder than mine) and has the quick steering rack that Z51 cars were fitted with. It leads to a heavy experience full of feel, and a car that changes direction (stably) without thinking about it. It creaks, bangs, some stuff falls off occasionally and it needs a retrim and a respray, but it still puts a smile on my face, and if I were to buy another Vette, its still likely I'd keep it.

Also, despite being a lowly L98, C5's don't run away from it. The interior is also different, the unbelievable narrow space for the driver and passengers and sill you have to climb over gives a sense of occasion to getting in and out*, and of course that feel of what the car is doing when you're driving it, you just feel like you're part of some rocket sled.

And whichever way you look at it, a C4 Corvette is a total bargain at the moment, a C5 I espect still runs to over £10k?

As a daily driver, the C5 is easier to live with (C4 still reliable and capable) - but a C5 does have a bigger boot, is easier to get in and out of, has brakes that seem to work, and does pull off amazing fuel economy for the size.

Since it's my second car, I'm sticking with the C4, does less miles these days (fuel price) but still an occasion when I take it for a drive.

  • one day it will probably give me a slipped disk.
