Glad to hear it's going well so far!

I'm down at the Goodwood Revival this weekend enjoying the sunshine and some great motor sport. The classic Corvettes were out on timed practice today and watching at Lavant Corner it was immediately apparent that good straight line speed is not enough to achieve a decent time if you then try to corner on three wheels, inside front tyre waving in the breeze! Good to see and hear them in action though. smile

Sorry for the lack of updates, so much has been happening here at Silverstone.

A huge crash on the start line of the first lap took out two stunning contenders, the TVR Sagaris
and the LNT Ginetta.

The resulting pace car lasted an hour and caused the Corvette to have an engine mangagement issue
and the car lost 4 laps, dropping it to 46.

However...a stunning fight back now sees the C5 LMGT in......2nd place at just before 3am. biggrin

More follows and here are some images.

According to Daily Sports Car the Corvette lost a wheel then a few hours later i.e. about 7.30 a.m. the engine let go big style.

Just a short written update as we head to the close of the 24 hour as a full report
will follow at www.corvetteracing.co.uk

As mentioned the car was running a stunning 2nd and closing quickly on the race
leading Topcats Marcus when it lost a wheel as it headed into Club at 5am due to
a component failure.

Ten laps were lost as it was recovered and it dropped to 12th.

Again charging and already back up to 7th, at 7.10 the engine let go in style.

The team did a complete engine out and change and returned to the track to well
deserved applause from all in the pit lane.

Back now in 32nd the team's aim was just to make the finish, but with 2 hours 20
left, the head gasket went and it was game over.

The car will appear to take the flag and it's the very least the hard working crew
and drivers deserve.

A pictorial diary of the above from the many hundreds of images follows, while
the full report will appear at www.corvetteracing.co.uk as soon as possible.

Finally, well done to everyone in the team, an awesome race by the entire
Xero Competition team and one that won't be forgotten.

Yep, very well done for keeping going through all the adversity. Sorry I wasn't there in person to support, but was thinking of you and following it on the internet.

I'd just like to take a brief moment to thank everyone for their support particularly Graham for all his hardwork and photography, which I'm sure you'll all agree is absolutely superb.

The team proved themselves to be incredibly professional and everyone was gutted when the no.1 engine let go detonating a piston and shoving a conrod through the side of the block. We'd made it from P48 to P2 when the RR wheel departed the car and even after replacement we were back to P7 when the engine failed. The replacement to our secondary engine took 3 hours, including flushing the entire oil system, baffle tank, oil lines et al. Strong work by all accounts.

Special thanks to Dave Beecroft of Xero, all the boys who helped keep the old girl going, who turned her out in such an incredible form and also to my co-drivers who stepped up to the plate against all difficulties.

We learnt from this years events and are already looking ahead to a strong assault next year.

^ Agreed, especially the night time shots where the silhouette lines stood out.

Of interest, do you know why the engine expired?

Oil leak...
No doubt about it.
Give oil a four inch hole in the side of the block and it just sneaks out!

You see I always thought that too much air in the block was the problem......

We use our own pistons which were developed some years ago, but are alot lighter than the originals and indeed alot of other pistons on the market for LS1's. The evidence sadly points to a piston failure as there is no other valve damage anywhere in the engine other than in the failed cylinder.

The LS7s are already being worked on and looking at the 24 Hour next year we'd be looking to retard the engine for fuel and reliability as we were getting a good result with 580Bhp which tends to suggest we might not need the extra 120 for a 24 Hour race.......
