Hi can some one please confirm that the 04 C5 should have the Optima Red Top Battery RTS 4.2, I bought my C5 new from Germany and it came with an AC Delco I think, may be because they ship cars with out a battery but as it is a gel type battery I do not understand that as the 04 should have had an Optima Red Top, thank you for any help you can give on that battery as there are a few types.

You need RT U4.2. Buy a ctek 3600 tender, good stuff.
RTS 4.2 won`t plug without wire conversion. C5 have front bolt in +/- connection.

Swapped out my Delco over a year ago. The battery was fine, it just wasn't worth the risk.............

This was posted by somebody some time ago - apologies don't know who. I got a red top same day from Twickenham:

Red Top Optima Heavy duty RTU 4.2 battery in my C5. Brilliant. fits just right. Got it from CPC Batteries in Twickenham. Must have a side post as well as a top post.

batteries for a Vauxhall Sintra(sp),there are 3 with different power ratings. the most powerful battery is M G0019001534

I paid about £140 from OCW for my Z28 a few years back which was about 575 CCA. (cold cranking amps)

The C5 uses the Red Top RTU 3.7L, P/No. 8022-255 (cold cranking 730 amps). Costs about £120

Ian Goss Services are doing AC DELCO batterys for C5s, 735 cold cranking amps £115.00 plus VAT,10% off for CCCUK members

Eurovettes - Optima RED top dual terminals 815 CCA perfect for Corvettes and the occasional use car - these are £140 delivered - normally 2 day delivery

This is one of my favourite topics

The 04 has top posts. The older AC Delcos (pre 00) were the ones with the risk of leaking. As the computer is undetr the battery tray on the C5, thats a bad thing.

You might want to read this that I posted some time ago on the CF.

I think that's the point; newer ones ought to be trouble free. Optimas seem to have been popular as an alternative although if you search the forums you'll find there can be problems with them too. You pays your money and you takes your choice!
