Yesterday I saw Top Fuel drag racing up close and personal for the first time. Simply astounding! The starts were everything expected, and more. Yet away from the main crowd and down by the finish line the experience was almost beyond comprehension! I've been unable to describe what it's like to experience a Top Fuel car passing about 30 feet away at over 300 mph but Wikipedia has come to the rescue!

"Top Fuel dragsters are notorious for the deafening amount of noise their engines create at full throttle. The intense levels of sound are not only heard, but also felt as pounding vibrations all over your body, 'feeling as though the entire drag strip is being bombed'."

It's amazing what 8,000 bhp can do! A truly mind-bending experience and for anyone who hasn't seen a Top Fuel dragster at full chat I recommend you add it to the list of things to do before you die. Near the top.... smile

When I first saw them at Santa Pod I was amused by the guys in the "terrace" directly behind the start. The noise was amazing, yet most of them didn't appear to be using ear plugs or covering their ears! (Which hurts, trust me...)

Well after taking friday off work, arranged baby sitter for friday night and saturday, travelled down friday afternoon, stayed at billing then drove down to santa pod for 9.30 to find them drying the track, then as it was dry the rain started, so again dryed the track and it rained, this went on until 5.00 when the heavens opened, gutted to say the least as we had to come home soaking wet and thoroughly chessed off, so was the missis and the 2 friends we took, dont you love British weather, glad you had a good Sunday.

Drag racing is one of my things.. it's taken me to the US and into Europe, just to spectate

I'm biased, but if you have never experienced these Top Fuel monsters before, they are definitely on the list of 50 things to do before you die...

All I can is go to Santa Pod for an FIA event (next one, Whitsun '09). I gaurantee that it will blow you away!

Oh and for those of you who think that it's "only driving in a straight line" think again. Fishtailing with all that HP under you foot makes for some skillfull driving

Santa Pod are running night time fuel racing on the 27th/28th Sept - which is when our Indian summer is due ! If you think daytime racing is awesome you have to experience nitro burning drag racing in the dark. There are no words to accurately describe it. It's the nearest you can get to an out of body experience without an anaesthetic. smokin
