ZO6 Hard Track Use Anyone?
Discussion
I am seriously considering acquiring a ZO6 for regular track use. Its all Mitch's and the Katech Clubsport's fault!
However, I kep on hearing that the car could end up more expensive to run than a GT3 RS and is somethning of a "handful" - I don't take these, often very biased, comments at face value but is there anyone out there who tracks their car hard - once a month at least - who could offer some insight?

Thank you Mr.Yu.
drhildr, there's no more risk attached to tracking a Corvette than anything else you may consider. You may find that the 6.2 litre C6 manual would replace your current Porsche and leave less of a dent in your bank balance too. It is, as we found out at Mireval earlier this year, a great track car with consistent tyre and brake performance on longer, harder stints than most track days permit and with 430 BHP it is no slouch.
The Z06 gets into Ferrari 599 territory in performance terms so some of the "bit of a handful" reputation reflects more on driving ability than the car.
Either car, C6 or Z06, can be made more track day resistant for a relatively small spend.
Please feel free to call or e-mail me.

I'm tracking mine quite a lot at the moment. I dont find it a handful at all but then my TVR was quite a little git and kept me on my toes. I feel far more confident in the Z06.
I've done 6 trackdays and one open event and all I've had to do is replace are the front pads. Everything else has been fine.
I regularly go up againts GT3's and have no real problem passing them or holding on to them in the bendy bits. However some well driven GT3RS's give me a good race each time and its far more balanced.
My car is still totally standard. Its now getting prep'd for next seasons Sprint challange. So we'll see just what a difference I'll get with upgraded brakes, Callaway Coil overs, Mitch PS2 tyres and a minor tweak to the engine. Bearing in mind that the GT3's and RS's use these tyres and coilovers as standard!

Very cool pic. I can see why they'd be popular out there; only way to buy a white Z06 and white is almost compulsory because of the heat.
I don't think there's any real difference in performance between the 997 GT3 and GT3 RS.
Once you put decent tyres on, neither of them will see which way you went, which is reason enough alone to justify buying a Z06!

The GT3 RS's that are on the track with us seem to pass the GT3's same as the Z06's do. But one of them we know is modded. I struggle to keep with him in a straight line.I don't think there's any real difference in performance between the 997 GT3 and GT3 RS.

Ron i can give you some details of a few people out in dubi that may be able to solve that problem for you...;)Excellent!
I was at Castle Combe today and there was a 996GT3 RS and a 997GT3 RS and neither could keep up with my Z06.
They both gave up and sulkily went home after lunch...
I then got bored as I was lapping every other car in my group every 2 laps.
But the final session was great fun as it rained and the track turned into a 2 mile skid pan!
Worn R888s and a greasy track meant it was time for Competitive Driving Mode and it coped amazingly well.
3/4 inch of throttle and any hint of a corner meant the tail slipped out 20 or 30 degrees before the electronic safety net brought things back into line.
You do have to apply the right amount of opposite lock and at the correct time, but the car stops you doing the wrong thing with your right foot.
All the other drivers were very enthusiastic about the Z06 with non-stop compliments (after the inevitable "bet you don't get many miles to the gallon in that" comments ).
drhildrew, you are going to love it. The only thing you have to lose are your GT3/RS buddies, as sadly they won't be able to accept that the £50k Plastic Fantastic will thoroughly spank their P & J...

godzila what mods have you done to the car?? did the tuning company that provided the cam and headers ever get back to you why the car wasn't making the power it should have??
Chris.
Right now the car has a completely stock engine, Penske coilovers, Brembo GT brakes and 18" Image wheels with Toyo R888 tyres.Chris.
We never got a chance to resolve the power discrepancy between Lingenfelter's power claims and my rolling road figures because a few months ago the engine put a rod through its block.
Hence the new, stock engine and my decision to sell the car and buy a new '09 in the US and take it to Katech who will build me a Le Mans proven, engine dyno-verified 600hp engine.

Thanks but I want Katech to build my next engine. Their expertise is second-to-none, and whilst they didn't win this year, 4 of the top 6 GT1 cars at this year's Le Mans 24 hour race were powered by Katech.
