Pondering a C6 as my sensible car... thoughts?
Discussion
Hi,
I've got an M3 CSL at present, which due to it spending a lot of time at the 'ring, and thus gaining a few enhancements, is becoming less of an "all rounder" - its a bit difficult expecting the girlfriend to clamber over a rollcage...
I'm currently over in california on business, and rented a C6 from hertz (400 EUR for 5 days), and I've got to say I'm smitten with it.

So, now I'm pondering picking one up as my 'sensible' road car - I walk to work, so don't need it for commuting, most of my driving would be motorways, either from Holland back to the UK, or from holland to the nurburgring, for which I think the C6 would be ideally suited - 1500rpm or so at 70mph...
What are people's experiences of them long term - reliability wise ,and so on? - I'd be looking at an LS3 engined one, probably 12-18 months old.
thanks
andrew

Not yet you wouldn't 'coz that's the new engine for 2008! Good choice though, the 2008 base Vettes look astounding value and performance.Yes, the Vette's an easy car to live with everyday and best of all, not everybody's got one.
You'll never regret it!
Mine ('05 C6) is a daily driver... takes me from Northampton to Luton and back everyday. Highly recommended for daily use. The C5/C6 is very practical for something with such amazing looks and performance. I average 26mpg over the course of a full tank (that includes weekend hoons) and the boot is deceptively big; I've managed go get a large flat-pack coffee table AND a matching side table in there! Also, I've managed to get FOUR brand new tyres in the car to transport them to the garage! Nothing has gone wrong, so far and, based on the unblemished reliability record of my old C5, I don't expect it to. Don't forget cheap insurance and cheap servicing (esp. if you DIY it). Do it; you won't regret it.
Cheers,
Ian.
Cheers,
Ian.
Mine is an 2007 C6 and while the first owner put just 400 miles in 6 months, since I took ownership,
it has done 8200 miles in 5 months.
I drove it around parts of Florida before shipping it here and as well as the UK mileage, it has
been down to the heat of the French Riviera, into snow and -16 in the French Alps and through a good
number of Gorges with more luggage than most family saloons could carry!
It has also done a (very) fast lap of Le Mans on another recent French trip.
All without any issues, just miles of smiles and as Ian said, "cheap insurance and cheap servicing
Do it, you won't regret it."

you're not wrong...Thanks for all the other comments / advice...
If the LS3 engine was new for '08, what is the LS2 like in comparison - has anyone driven both back to back?
In 6.2 litre guise, the 08 is a sharper car, particularly in automatic form, due to the quicker change in the paddle shifting box for 08.
The manual cars all feel fast, with small changes to the shift quality being as noticeable as the uplift in power.
GM took the dealers to the Goodyear test track near Montpellier in the spring to try the 08 with Porsche 997s for comparison.
Whether on road or track, and trust me because I like and admire Porsches, the C6 gripped, stopped, and went better, all for the price of a Boxster.

definitely go for it. there is no way you will regret it.
Sean I saw your car parked next to Cubans on Sunday. Sorry I didn't have time to stick around and say hello. I think that your decision to keep the RF stickers in the box was a good one.
Did you ever get the Corvette Europe track day sorted?

Thanks James.
