Has any of you guys had a speeding citation on the Turnpike in Florida. Was doing 89 in a 70. Copper put 99 down and made other mistakes on the ticket. Will be going back in October and regularly from then on. Do they nick you on arrival if it's not paid? Did'nt see his car, it blended in with the background, took 10 minutes to catch me up. Hee!

Thanks, Jamie

Will try and pay on line don't want to get hoisted when I go back. Most of the motors were doing 85ish as I crawled past them at nearly 90. have to pay $220 for 99mph but if the lawman had put the speed he said he gunned me at..89mph it would have been 45 buckaroonies less. They must luv the English! Will keep you informed of outcome.

Having lived in the US for a few yars in the past, don't risk an outstanding citation against you

Immigration will have you in a heartbeat o entry.

Run it down, make all the excuses you need and pay up soonest.

Agree - pay up or face immigration problems forever more. I have friends who get taken into drakened rooms every time they enter the country. You were lucky at that speed not to have a court appearance. Couple of years ago I had to go back to North Carolina to appear in a very scary rural court and was banned on the spot and fined $300 for 79mph in a 55 (in a C5 Z06 of course). Luckily a policeman pointed out to me in private that their database takes a few days to update so I could drive back to the airport without risk of being put in jail... otherwise I could still be there.

I got caught doing 110 in a 55 zone in a C5 Convertible a few years ago. I got find $300 and paid it over the phone - telephone numbers should be on the ticket telling you how to pay. Apparently you can go to jail for over 100mph in Florida - I never knew that until afterwards...justpay the fine, it's not that much and certainly not worth a bunch of hassle over.

I have paid the fine over the phone, no problems. If I lived there permanently I would certainly have contested this in Court as Mr Plod made loads of mistakes on the citation. Good things came out of it though, bought a Nissan Titan LE and a villa by the saltwater rivers in Palm Sands (Flagler County) now I'm skint!

Not being finny, you were doing 89 in a 70 and got caught? Sounds like fair cop to me? It's only a fine after all.

I got pulled on virtually an open road doing almost 90MPH driving a fly/drive PT Cruiser with my wife, 70 year old mother in law and two young kids in tow. As I got out the car (Miami Turnpike 7.00am and Freezing Cold) I had my hands in my pockets and the Sheriff fell into a squat assualt position and pulled his gun!!! After booking me he reckoned I looked like I was concealing something.

Back on the turnpike $285 worse off I had just finished sgging him off and got pulled again by a "Sherif Training Officer" less than 5 miles on for another $200 worth for doing 80MPH!!!

Tried to pay the fines online back home but their US national based card payment system would/will not allow it....guess Im looking at community service next time Deputy.

You cracked me up there Paul.. V6 The little buggers (sherrifs) hide in banks, behind trees, clumps of grass, gun you and give chase, dukes of hazard style... 10 minutes later they appear in your mirror, not like our bobbies, onto you like a flash, sirens, lights, and anything else they can lay their hands on. Good ole british bobby! I bet the yanks don't pay speeding tickets if they are caught on our roads and live in the states.

"As I got out the car"
Potentially Fatal Error # 1.

Remember cops put themselves in mortal danger every time they make a traffic stop.

FHP advice says, roll down your window, but stay in your vehicle, with your hands visible until instructed to do otherwise. Use interior light, if dark (cops really appreciate this) and do not rummage around for license, insurance etc., until asked to produce them.

The thing that really astounds me is when cops pull people over onto the inside breakdown lane, rather than the outside one - or better still, the next off-ramp. It happens all the time on I-4 through Orlando and must be almost as dangerous as stopping people in the travel lanes.
