Fitting Diff gears to my ZR-1, Who's able ?
Discussion
Once I've decided what diff gears to fit to my ZR-1, 3.7's, 3.9's or 4.10's I am looking at bringing in a set from the states. I have a choice, either send the diff stateside, or save the cost of shipping to the states and enlist the services of a garage this side of the pond to fit them, any pointers on who to use. I want a reputable company incase of problems. Thanks.
Cliff, with your mechanical expertise already well proven on your LT-5 I'd do it yourself if I were you. Sounds like most "specialists" out there are pretty incapable...
My mate's just changed the gears on his 2002 Mustang for a 4.10 set. Took him a while and he got a bit paranoid with the engineers blue but it works OK as he's done a few miles on this set of gears now.
He did get a bit pd off with the whine from the lowere gearset and was going to change it back but decided agains it in the end....

Cheers chaps, I was going to ship the gears in and use the Garage Gixer used but since they wont stand by their work when things go wrong I'm going to have to look for another garage that will give me some sort of guarentee. Malc, thanks for the compliment, at the last resort I might have a go at it myself, in the mean time I hope Gixer gets some sort of back up from the garage he used. I kind of feel shakey about parting with a thousand pounds if it's all going to go belly up.
If you can possibly do it yourself I would try to, having just fitted the dry sump kit to the C5 Z06, although it took me a while and meant taking off the front sub-frame, sump, etc. it was a lot cheaper than paying someone else £60+ per hour labour.....I also know it is done right.......possibly
It's really sad that you're not even able to trust anyone really, even if they do enjoy a 'good reputation.'
Alas the only real time you see 100% success on here if anyone is doing anything more than a service or oil change is when you do it yourself.
Cliff - if you need any hints or tips, try Theo on Corvetteclub or post questions, got a good friend who recently did his and has enough engineering nouse to answer generic diff questions.

ZR1cliff, If you run out of options then the firm I am using to build my Veeteor, Aryliam Motorsport, would be able to do that kind of work. They were experts at setting up the diff in Caterhams competing in the Race series and I can't see why a Corvette LSD is going to be any different in practice to change out a ring and pinion. They've swapped the ring & pinion in my Sylva several times. They are based in Sarratt, Hertfordshire, a mile or so from the M25, near Rickmansworth / Chorleywood. They are building my Veeteor project, have worked on my Camaro in the past, also Marcos LM500s, Ultima/Chevrolets, RS200s, various machinery and I trust them implicitly.

Given that there is an ajacent topic on the performance of a popular, large franchise selling Corvettes with the approval of GM, is it now acceptable to publicise supplier experiences on here, positive or negative?
I'll name Corvette Kingdom, Moving Parts and Eurovettes as a start to those giving excellent service...

Thanks for the heads up on the company, I will assess the cost get some quotes and act accordingly. Car's running well at the moment and after three years off the road I'm just grateful to be cruising again so I will probably let the motor bed in for a couple of thousand miles before I stress it. What Hong Kong Dicky has accomplished on a base 350ci with his home grown mods is nothing short of exemplary.Gassing Station | Corvettes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
