Summer has finally come to England, that is, two days without rain and finally the sun checked in for duty!
cool

Good timing too as my Bad Boy Vette Jake decals arrived today and to celebrate, for the first time ever (despite
having lived in Florida for six months) she went topless!

Very nice.Just a question?.How does your C6 compare with your old C5?.

Different leagues as you would perhaps expect with 8 years of further development.

With us both coming from a Cerbera, you can perhaps relate to the C5 having the same power, but it
feeling very spongy over bumps. The C5 also was happy to take on a bad bump in the road, but there
was a split second where you wondered what it would do, although where a Cerbera might have had a
hairy moment, the C5 corrected itself as long as the driver is focused.

My C6 is a 2007 year model with Z51 and both the above points have been corrected. It hugs the road
now without it being as harsh ride and I have yet to hit any bump, pot hole or dramatic change in
road camber that it can't adapt to and that to me, makes it feel far more driver controlled as I
can attack the road / corners with far more confidence.

I also have the option to change how much control I want, but that little button is perhaps best
left for track use.

Having had the opportunity to take the C5 over some of the best roads and some wonderful mountain
passes in Europe, my main frustration was in the auto box and I resorted to dropping it down to using
second and third to stop it hunting for a gear in the ever changing surroundings.

Yet, covering so many miles, there were times where I was especially glad to have the auto (M25
traffic for example!) but for all that, I had decided I would go manual this time...until I got to
drive a paddle shift in California.

The perfect solution for my use, I can now drive in a competitive style with the paddles, quickly
moving between 2-5th and it makes the car feel very nimble and while others say the car looks big to
them, after the C5, the C6 now feels like I am back behind the wheel of one of the karts I used to
race around Europe.

I've been fortunate to have driven many cars and while perhaps only the GT3 gave me a similar buzz,
I'd take the C6 over the Porsche any day, (especially as it is far more comfortable and I could have
two for the price of one GT3!)

You can also add in the Sat Nav the C5 didn't have, the better interior finish, steering control
buttons and as I found out yesterday for the first time, even the storage of the roof panel has had
more thought put into it.

So I as I said at the start, it's a different league over the C5 - Have I sold you one yet? hehe

Agreed. Manually downshifting an auto C5 is very handy when pressing on.

Yes, the C6 paddle-shifter I drove was a big step forward. More ratios to choose from is an absolute boon, not least because (as in C5) once you've selected a gear the range of speeds available in that gear is simply massive. Speed of the shifts is much quicker than anything I've ever achieved in a manual Vette.

That's the same impression I get in a C6. It's more nimble than C5 and has better steering feel to boot.

As you might have guessed, if there wasn't already a C5 on my drive I'd be down the C6 shop pretty quick! Hanging on for a C7.....

Thanks for the comparison Graham.Compared with the Cerb,i always found the C5 to be a little remote as a full on drivers car compared with the Cerbera.But thats hardly anything to complain about.Factoring in running costs between the two,then its a no brainer.The C5 is leagues ahead.Its sounds like from what your saying that some of those driver issue's,remoteness,feel,etc,have been re-addressed in the C6.I will need to try one.But as for buying one?.Then not just yet.I dont feel i have had the C5 long enough,or benefited much from it to change just yet.Plus the wife would kill me if i put it up for sale.As now with the change in weather she's the main user.

Of course you could have done the right thing and bought a manual instead! (C6 owner, manual, previous car C5 Auto....)

For sure, it is so much more a drivers car than the C5 and that is not intended to
show any disrespect to the C5 which is in itself, an awesome machine. Naturally this
is but my own opinion and we all have different requirements and the C6 in the
configuration I have it, happens to tick all the boxes for me.

Corvettes should fly out the window if they were RHD (perhaps not now in this economic
climate) with running costs that beat even most family cars and they also appear to be
almost bomb proof from C5 onwards, so apart from the fact they are not British made,
just about any TVR owner or sports car enthusiasts, would find little wrong with
them, a fact that is born out by all the ex or current TVR owners on this forum.

There will be plenty of C6s around should the time come that you want to make a
switch, but right now, having a C5 is a pretty darn good place to be anyway.

By the way Mark, your C5 looks awesome. The wheels are amazing. What are they?
