ive just bought a dodge ram hemi 2005 its on the boat now! so this isn't great for me however when you fill in the registration details you have to fill in the c02 numbers so i will gas convert it to lpg before registration send in the certificate and fill in very low co2 numbers (maybe smart car ones) ive never heard of any checks its got to be worth a try. see if i can get it tax free!
I have an 03 Harley pick up and the tax is £185 a year
this is because the they don't have a CO2 rating on the V5 so it has to be the PLG Rate. This cannot be changed.
It works both ways you cannot prove what the co is and the government has to do exhaustive (no pun intended)tests to prove the CO is higher than the lowest they have on their lists .

i went through all this with my 01 ram when i regitered it i filled in the plg section rather than the c02 section so after the lpg was fitted they said because it was registered plg they couldn't give me the discount however if i had registered it with the co2 i would have got the discount. and you are right they will not change things retrospectivly (unless it helps them)however if i fill the form out right it will be taxed by co2
Regarding the CO2 figure ,what I was trying to say is they don't have co2 figures for an import because its an import.
If you cannot supply the info on the co2 and they can't either they cannot charge the highest rate because that would be penalising without any proof to back it up.
Its one case where the Gov lose because they have to play by the rules they set.
I think thats the case anyhoo
