A bit of advice please guys. Just bought a 1998 C5 as a replacement to the C4. Neither of the key fobs work, I have changed the batteries and followed the procedure to re programme them and whilst the 'Fob training' and 'press lock & unlock' come up on the dash display, nothing happens.

The car has been fitted with a non standard radio CD in place of the Bose system, I don't suppose this could be part of the problem ?

Anyone any thoughts, or things to try ? scratchchin

Mine has occasionally locked me out. The process I use is that I stand by the left front wing with the doors shut and hold down lock and unlock for about a minute - till the horn beeps briefly. Then it is ok. Maybe you are not holding the buttons long enough.

I also have a non-standard radio...

Questions,

1. Is your Vette a Euro car (with rear red foglights cut into the back of the car) or a US personal import (with reversing lights immediately alongside the rear number plate)?

2. Do your key fobs just have 4 buttons or is there a little sliding switch as well?

The point is that Euro cars and USA cars have different and incompatible fobs. It's possible someone has bought fobs and accidentally got the wrong ones. With a Euro Corvette you should not have a sliding switch on the fob.

Yes, you guessed ... I learned this the hard way!

This link shows you a US fob. The little black stripe near the hole for the key-ring is the sliding switch.

Yep its aeuro spec car origianlly from Germany. Both fobs only have 4 buttons. I,ve located the receiver and it all looks okay. Can't believe that both fobs are faulty. I,m a bit lost for ideas now.

it may well be you aren't holding the buttons down long enough you have to hold the buttons down for a good 40 seconds and then it tells you to do the next fob.
the other thing you should try is go to a local alarm specialist they should have a fob tester to make sure a signal is coming out of the fob.

Hmmmm. OK, so it sounds like you have the right fobs and with good batteries in them.

Have you grasped that there's a difference between "Synchronization" and "Matching" of the tansmitters (i.e. fobs)?

Synchronization is what's needed if vehicle or fob battery is disconnected. Matching is a more fundamental procedure and should clear any glitches. Look at pages 162 and 163 of your driver's manual for full instructions....

.... or are they in German?!!

Here you go,

Synchronization is easy. Just press Lock and Unlock together until the horn chirps (about 7 seconds). If this doesn't work you need to try Matching as below,
