489in a 68 - thoughts?
Discussion
I am thinking of overboring the 454 in my 68 and dropping in an Eagle kit to around a 489.
Has anyone done this sort of thing before and what are the pitfalls. ALso wondering what sort of performance I can expect (car is a weekend toy). The rest of the car will be stock, including rims.
Cheers guys.

Not too similar but my 350 has 10.5/1 compression and its not a problem. With the big cubic inches 10:1 shouldnt be a problem either. Why dont you give Real Steel a call, they could do the work on your block to get the cubes you want, alternatively you could buy a motor from them and put your original numbers motor in storage, a lot of the guys in the US do that.

My advice is get a decent set of internals not "Eagle" as according to a very knowledgeable source on the matter the cheap chinese made rods break!!!!Has anyone done this sort of thing before and what are the pitfalls. I am doing just this 'at this moment'. Mine is a '68 427 manual. I have a 'built' 489 with Brodix oval port heads and a mild hyraulic cam. This has been dynoed at 528 bhp and 563 ft/lbs torque. Bottom line is that it is as cheap to build-up a 'mild' 489/496 as a hot re-built 427 (if you buy correctly) The real plus is that the stroker engine will be far more street friendly and put out more hp than the 427. Chinese cranks? don't concern yourself about it unless you are putting out really 'serious' hp. Has anyone done this sort of thing before and what are the pitfalls. Cheers Cliff, I want to keep the existing block though, and I would like to keep the thing vaguely sensible (to the extent 8 litres can be) - so 10 to one compression etc, cam not too lumpy...
Just wondered if anyone had done anything similar?
Look forward to hearing about the upgrade James, the front chrome bumber C3 is one of my favourite shapes.Just wondered if anyone had done anything similar?
