Okay my C5 Z06 is now here, SVA'd and ready for registration. Thanks for the all the suggestions for Insurance - in the end Hagerty's were by far the cheapest, flexible and easiest to deal with. Recommended. Looking forward to picking the car up and meeting some other UK Vettes in the summer.

And last week I picked up my new C6 Z06 (black/black/comp grey)in San Diego and drove it to Phoenix. Next week flying back out to complete the drive of a lifetime - Phoenix to NY via, of course, a Bowling Green tour. First impressions are very good though to be honest it felt a bit quiet and soft compared to the C5; have an exhaust flap switch to fit, and wish I had NOT got the sat nav as I prefer the simplicity of a basic audio in retrospect.

Look out for reports of a mad group of Brits causing mayhem somewhere in Arkansas!!

I've had the C5 Z06 from new since 2003 and love it. I live in the US but am from Sussex originally - hence I've shipped it there for when I am in the UK for the summer. I think it says a lot that I'd never ever sell it. I've used it as a regular (if not daily) driver and have done long cross US trips too. It is much rawer that the C6 in that it has much less sound insulation (none); feels firmer, and the steering/gears/clutch all have a heavier more mechanical feel. The exhaust sounds good as standard, and the power/torque is great. Plenty of opportunity as you'll have seen to go from there if you want to add power and other tweaks. If anything the C6 has been over-sanitized for all those TG wimps, but I am sure going to try and get used to it, and maybe unleash it a little!!

I am also a member of P1 and have driven every supercar there is, and frankly, I keep coming back to the Vette - you can keep your ferraris and lambos and the only thing that comes close driving pleasure wise is a Porsche GT3 RS or AM V8 Vantage.

Thinking of rejoining P1 this year. Some amazing cars on the way...

...frankly, I keep coming back to the Vette
That's what we like to hear! Vette may not be the ultimate extreme but it's just so - useable. smile

I drove it to the Monaco Historique GP and back through the Alps and back on Route Napoleon. Felt carved from solid - superb chassis - and able to drive it near the limit all the time; and the engine/manual shift is very compelling combination, and the exhaust note great. Not as fast as a Z06 but in terms of fun brilliant, and usable. Other Astons and 997 turbo or GT3 RS great but their limits are scary places to be - might be my ability constraints but I do like to feel I am in control!! Ferraris no competition (I went with some and you try keeping them on the boil up the passes and getting through some of the narrower gaps etc)...

I'm leaving P1.
