Needs some advice, gents. I'm considering replacing the standard exhaust on my 2001 C5 coupe with something a bit more sporty. Essentially, I want a bit more V8 rumble at idle, and a sportier edge under acceleration, but I don't want to be deafened or have too much resonance at cruising speeds. Which system would give the best compromise? It seems the Borla Stinger is quite popular, but what are the alternatives? Any advice appreciated.

I have just fitted a Borla dual tail pipe system and I am delighted with the sound and the quality of the product, it has transformed the car

IIRC C5Ragtop (or whatever the yellow Bournemouth wonder is called) has a DIY kind of modification with a diverter valve and open pipes for that "on demand" straight-through effect.

Looked rather neat to me and is exactly what I've had an eye out for. Probably worth having a chat to him and then seeing if Ian Goss could get it sorted at a sensible price.

I would buy Borla ( not straight pipes or stinger) or if You don`t like to loud go for granatelli smile or BB PRT/route66.

I've got the borla stingers - they're loud - people will hear you coming from 1/2mile away
but it sounds great !

QTP cutouts. £500 fitted and you can choose between stock sound or completely straight through at the touch of a button. See Vette News.

Most guys on the Corvette Forum suggest the Corsa Pace Car exhaust for what you want. The Borla gets a great review but apparently can be wearing at motorway speeds.

driving down to monaco last year wasn't that bad though but it was fairly noisy in the cab - really need headsets at anything over 100mph

I had a Magnaflow system on mine - it was too loud really. Biggest problem with many replacement systems is resonence at certain engine speeds/loads. My car used to 'drone' horribly at around 1500rpm under a slight throttle load. It was enough to really piss me off after a while. The car sounded fantastic at WOT, however

Thanks for all the advice, really helpful. The Mid America Motorworks website also has some good sound clips for comparison. I'm starting to think a Corsa system may be the way to go, and apparently the Touring system is a little quieter and easier to live with than the Pace Car system.

I had a SLP (Street Legal Performance) Loudmouth on mine.

Christ it was loud.

Sounded great though.

Would I get one again.... hmmm.. probably but only with a cutout fitted to cut down the motorway drone.

Interestingly, if you have a manual as I did it's quite easy to drive around the drone wheras with an auto you are more stuck with the revs/gear combo the car wants to pull.

Thats what is putting me off.The fact you always get the drone in an auto, but not a manual.
