Does anyone know of any issues with a Z06 brakes after a trackday?

Mine still have a solid pad feel but there wooden! I've lost most of the bite! Its making a weird noise only under gentle braking. I though it might have been a small stone as it only started 10 miles or so after the evening had finished.

Do the standard pads break up easy?

Thanks
Craig

Yes they do. Get them checked out right away.

The Z06 uses 6 small padlets, one for each piston and they are thinner and smaller than normal pads.

Worse still, the bean counters at GM saw fit to make only left side directional rotors, so the vanes on the RHS are actually trying to suck the hot air back into the centre of the disc!

For track use, the minimum you should do is replace the pads for better ones and the fluid with race spec.

Once the discs wear out/crack (which won't take long if you're driving it properly), there are aftermarket solutions that are way better than stock, i.e. lighter and "handed" for each side.

Oh and if you leave all AH/TC systems on, they will wear the brakes much faster as they will apply them to keep the car on course even if you're not on the brakes.

But obviously don't take it beyond Competitive Driving Mode until you are 100% confident in driving the car without aids!

Thanks mate! I'm not in Dubai at the moment I flew out to Hong Kong this morning so I'll get it all checked as soon as I return.

A company here in the States (Wilwood) makes a replacement Z06 brake kit that gives you proper directional rotors and a caliper that has two pads instead of 6! Might be the way to go if you are going to do more track days.

Of course it all boils down to how often you track the car and how much you want to spend.

I started off changing the rotors for these 2 piece ones from Racing Brake. Much lighter than standard and directional with removable friction rings. Not bad:

But when they wore out/cracked I decided to go the whole hog and bought these puppies:

Which have now been augmented by the LG Motorsport spindle duct and hose kit:

You will not get better brakes on a Z06 and they never fade.

I think that's dead right. A fairly heavy road car will cook its brakes with ease on track. It's just a question of how far you want to go. My old outfit "AP Racing" is pretty good for upgraded brake packages but for all I know just a rotor and pad swap might be sufficient for your needs.

AP Racing or Brembo brakes are definitely the way to go.

Right looks like the discs are a wee bit warped!

I'm arguing with the garage that seeing as its only done less than 4000km and one trackday that these should be a warranty issue! The garage are saying different. The car is promoted here as a great trackday car as long as the extra service requirements are met! So WTF???? LOL

Anyways what the going rate for up graded discs and pads?

Thanks
