I should be having my first 1/4 mile race tonight and wondered what sort of times I should be looking for in the Z06?

Thanks,

"Chevy says the 2006 Z06 will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in well under 4 seconds, run the quarter-mile in the mid-11-second range and top out at 190 mph."

Should give you a suitable target to aim for!

Road & Track (Jan 2007) achieved 12.0 sec @ 121.0 mph and they test with less than full aggression.

Hope it goes well!

check out www.corvetteforum.com as they have posted up lists of their fastest times. I think high tens are possible on totally stock cars.

High 10s have only been attained by a couple of people with massive drag racing experience.

I believe 11.7 is the official time and about 12.0 what a better than average driver will achieve initially.

Beware the clutch doesn't take kindly to any slippage!
Max revs it can take is about 3700rpm and a very fast engagement, i.e. just short of side-stepping it.

Lowering the rear psi to about 20psi hot will help too and if there is any sign of "axle tramp" or "wheelhop", back off immediately, the driveshafts can break very easily under those conditions.

I'm no drag racer and the best I've done is 11.6, but that was with Toyo R888s and engine mods.

Do a search on the Corvette Forum under "Ranger" and it will bring up loads of useful threads.

Ranger based in the USA has produced the best stock Z06 times anywhere; he ran 11.22 @ 127.16 on stock tyres.

On drag radials but otherwise stock he went 10.85 @ 129.50.
Go to http://www.rangeracceleration.com for more info and videos of the runs etc.

I dropped him a line when I bought my Z06 and with a little advice from the man himself I went 11.80 @ 121 in bone stock trim on stock run flat tyres which to my knowledge is the fastest anyone has gone in the UK in stock trim. It wasn't a perfect pass by any stretch of the imagination. I did that after only a handful of passes whereas Ranger put in over 50 passes to perfect the technique. The Z06 is tricky to launch and get every gearchange right without hitting the rev limiter. Fortunately the HUD helps with that as a shift up arrow appears at about 7,000 rpm.

I'm developing a new car of my own design, the Veeteor LS/R which ran 11.42 @ 118 with such ease and only 340bhp from stock LS1 as it runs an electronically shifted auto with high rpm stall converter. Makes the Z06 seem like a nightmare to drag! I'll be running the Veeteor in the UK SRS series thisw year, but aiming for low 10s / high 9s once the LS1 engine is properly tuned (currently at 410bhp, aiming for 500+).

PS read Rangers website and he'll explain how keeping your clutch fluid clean and free from contamination will avoid the clutch woes that Godzilla (and me) have experienced! He has other great tips for keeping your Z06 in tip top condition, it's a fascinating site.

Well I honestly have no idea what times I ran. The event was good but there was an accident and I left early.

The track hadn't been sprayed with the tackifier stuff and I was slipping all over the place making it danagerous.

Had a good run there though. We'll do it again soon and do it right and I'll post up the times.

Craig, I'm not certain but I have the suspicion the humidity here will down grade your ET's compared to those posted here.

Where are you going for these drags? PM me if that's more appropriate.

That must have been the event where well-known Corvette Forum member ayousef crashed his supercharged Z06 at over 130mph.

Thankfully he was ok, but the car is likely to be a write-off...

He managed a 11.8 but that was with over 800bhp! Standard Z06s were struggling to get into the 14s as the surface was so slippery.

I guess it was due to fine sand on the track?

Blimey, that's not good!!!

Maybe that's why he didn't show for the Jebel Hafeet run.
I was exchanging email with him just before that but it's radio silence since.
I hope he's not too pi$$ed off about the car, it can be fixed/replaced (probably) and more importantly I'm glad he's ok.

Godzilla, off topic and sorry for prying but out of curiosity, what have Lingenfelter done to your Z06?

The surface was very slippy but it wasnt just the sand it looked like it had be clean or polished after the previous event and no sticky surface was laid till it later. Even then they only took it up to the finish line and thats more of the problem! When he went over the line the car side stepped!

Their 616hp cam, headers and CAI kit.
Evo magazine review here: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/2050...

Hasn't measured over 600hp on a UK dyno yet, but I'm getting LPE to remap it on the car now it has had the throttle body and inlet manifold ported.

I've added Brembo GTs and Penske coilovers as well as Toyo R888s on 18" wheels, so it's pretty handy around a circuit!

clap

VERY nice and great write-up too.

So, just a bit of fine tuning on the dyno then should hopefully see you in the 600's!
