Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a C6 conv in the next month or two, and the only decision left to make is whether or not to go for the factory Satnav. For those of you who went for the factory unit, what are your experiences on the following:

1. Is it usuable, accurate, fast to recalculate routes?
2. Does it do Points-of-Interest (and in particular Speed Cameras)?
3. How well does the TMC traffic update system work?
4. Is there any way of hooking up a CD changer or remotely controlling an iPod?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hi Gary

Only just got mine, so I can only partially answer you as I am still trying things out.

So far it seems very good on directions, it is certainly very easy to operate, but it does restrict functions while the car is moving.

2. Does it do Points-of-Interest (and in particular Speed Cameras)?
It does have POI, although I'm not aware that it does this for speed cameras?

3. How well does the TMC traffic update system work?
Can't help with this.

4. Is there any way of hooking up a CD changer or remotely controlling an iPod?
I'm simply using a Griffin iTrip Auto FM transmitter at the moment. Not perfect but not too bad.
Hope that helps a little. smile

Garmin are great, I use them with work, but it's good to have the Corvette
system on even when I don't need it to be directing me.

These days it's easy to be somewhere and not even know what's around you,
so having the map running is interesting. smile

That's the thing - I've already got a Garmin and I'm twitchy about spending the best part of £2K to get less funtionality and lose the CD changer!

I agree with Graham. My car came fitted with the Sat Nav and it's nice to have, but probably does less than my TomTom Go 910. Not having a CD autochanger hasn't bothered me so far.

No speed cameras and no way of uploading them.

3. How well does the TMC traffic update system work?

OK, but you need to be listening to the CD player or Classic FM as it picks up the signal from Classic FM.

4. Is there any way of hooking up a CD changer or remotely controlling an iPod?

On the Z06 the battery is where the CD changer would go anyway I think. Dunno about the C6.
I don't think factory iPod support is out yet.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I think the standard C6 Sat Nav works very well - I`m glad I specified it, and I wouldn`t like to be without it.

The main thing is that the system integrates effortlessly and seamlessly into the task of driving the car.
It is, most importantly, easy to see and use when needed, and yet unobtrusive when not.
With cars like the Vette - high profile and LHD to boot - you need all your concentration for events on the road ahead.
If you travel alone, and far from home, then Sat Nav is an essential safety feature, I would say.

I use a number of different cars which do not have integrated Sat Nav, and to provide that function, I`ve bought products made by Road Angel, Tom Tom, Speedcheetah,Snooper,Origin Bluei and Pogo, Bel etc - to provide a mix of navigation and camera warnings.

All the aftermaket products work - some better than others - but they all seem to have an annoying habit of 'unsticking' themselves from their mounts, cradles etc, and crashing aroung the interior just when you start to enjoy some enthusastic motoring!

Their power supply cables clutter up the dash, and if you want to run more than one at the same time then you need one of those Halfords multiplug things for your lighter socket, which adds further to the general clutter and ugliness of the aftermarket setup.
They are a magnet for thieves, and their maintenance subscriptions can be costly.

I am very happy with the Vette Sat Nav - for camera spotting I use a Road Angel Plus, only because I can charge it up at home and don't normally need to use the in car power supply.

Having owned all the camera spotting devices, the best one for me is the Origin Pogo.
It has the most accurate camera database, it is small, unobtrusve, easy to remove and hide when you park, and also has some very useful features - it gives a visual indication of your average speed within SPECS loops.
The only fault I have with it, is that the display becomes invisible if you wear Polaroid sunspecs!! - nice one!!

I shall have my Pogo permantly wired in the Vette, and that, plus the standard C6 Sat Nav will do just what I wantsmile

Pneumatic blondes with maps do it for me. The buttons on sat navs are always too small!

I've been very impressed with the satnav in my C6 convertible (well, for the very little time I've actually used it!) Did a trip to a wee village outside inverness in October and it took me right to my mate's door!

By the way, I'm selling my C6 Convertible! July 06, Silver, Only 4,600 miles, and absolutely MINT!
