Hi gents,

Have a 06 C6 and the other night a guy came over to me at the petrol station and said that when I put my foot on the brakes the brake lights came on together with the orange lights (indicators?) Is this normal on the c6 or have I got an electrical problem?

Thanks in advance.

Is it a USA personal import which had to have its lights converted for SVA or is it a Euro specification car?
And as a rider, does it have the US style "afterburner" tail lamps?

I'm guessing it's a U.S. car as I have seen this problem before. Your wiring is shorting and needs looking at. We've found that alot of people who did light conversions on C6s didn't get to grips with some of the complexity and as a result found some solutions that don't last all too long. If you're in the near vicinity of Manchester I would shamelessly recommend coming to see us.

Stingray

The operation of the lights is different with handbrake on off or in D or P if auto because DLR then come on. Best to check both modes.

I was heading in the same direction as Mitch, wondering whether you had some dodgy SVA work causing trouble.

Here are a couple of images. Yellow car has Euro tail lights and the darker car has USA style "afterburner" tail lights. (If I ever get a c6 it's gonna have to have some work done at the rear so's I can have afterburner style lamps with an amber section in the center....)

Euro car has horizontal segment for amber indicator in outboard lamp units.

USA car has concentric red lamps.

5 USA, you'll have fun with that one. I've already tried on my own Z06 last year and got bored. I did convince my electrician to wire up the inner lamps so that they come on with the headlights, but the brake lights are restricted to the outer lamps. FYI, if a light conversion on a C6 has been done correctly the Auto lamps will not work and the Daytime Running Lamps shouldn't come on. If they are then the conversion is not legal.

Hmmm, but I do like those full twinned rear lamps. A magic box of diodes, dremel, epoxy and a few other bits and pieces (not forgetting Valerie Singleton and an empty washing-up liquid bottle) should be able to come up with something! Certainly the "semi-Jap" C5 fix* was straightforward by comparison.

Here's a larger C6 "afterburner" pic. What would be needed is to get a side/brake lamp combo into the outer rings and replace the centre portions with amber indicators.

*Japanese C5s have US-style reversing lamps beside a square rear licence plate and twinned amber indicators like this car from North Carolina which has been fitted with Euro lamps.
