I'm looking to buy some chrome bits from Ecklers for my 76 engine bay. Nothing too heavy. Will I have to pay Vat and import duty on the bits. Would appreciate any info. especially if you have bought from Ecklers, e.g. shipping costs to U.K. (say 10lbs weight max) and how long do the bits take to arrive.

thanks in advance.

The answer is yes, you probably will. Take a look here

However, CCCUK members get 20% discount with Ecklers

Ecklers is probably slightly more expensive than others, and they use FedEx that are not the cheapest.
You will pay both import duty and then vat on the whole price including shipping, but the calculation has an element of where British air space starts (Vat on the shipping costs)
FeEx will do this clearing for a nominal fee dependant upon your total items and their cost.
I recently shipped such items from both Ecklers and West Coast Corvette, and the shipping costs were approx $140 US (all items were small stainless bits etc). The shipping became a not insignificant ratio to the purchase price.
By the time shipping and Gordon's cut were added, it would have been cheaper to fly and get them myself!

Even though club members get 20% off from Ecklers, they are not always the cheapest nett price! Summit (if they do the bits)seem very reliable. I have just had some performance & carb bits from them - no complaints. I ordered 8 quite varied items on-line on a Sunday afternoon, they shipped following afternoon (really impressive), left Chicago USA (air freight USPS)two days later. Took nearly two weeks via Parcel Post/Customs to get to me. Still no complaints, paid £10 duty, £70 vat, $80 shipping, $23 Ecklers international handling charges on £400's worth of gear - still no complaints (except for that pox ridden, charge it on everything scandalous frigging VAT!!!!!!!!!!)

The bits I want only come to about £250. Bloody taxes! we pay on everything. I suppose by the time vat. importing etc. are added on I will be paying quite a chunk. Main item I was looking for was ally ribbed rocker covers to replace my tin covers. Anybody know where I can locate them in U.K. (good second hand is fine) Also chrome air filter cover. Happy New Year to all.

Ecklers is a good and reliable supplier account, only just a bit expensive...vat is payable for all imports into EU.

thanks gents. Been in touch with Real Steel'very helpful and they do a great range of edelbrook stuff and I think I will go down that route for my bits. I wanted some chevvy orange spray paint for parts of the block but it looks like the only place who sells this is the states and as we know they can't ship it by air. anywhere in the U.K. that sells the spray paint?
