Does the ZO6 have some kind of 'trick' valved exhaust, and if so is it possible to improve the sound effect?

In my opinion the "mild to wild" switch is the best option. Removing the fuse makes it unpleasant when running in sixth gear at legal motorway speeds - there is a constant drone. The mild to wild allows you to either open or close the butterfly valves remotely.

There is a new remote exhaust valve made by Sunset Orange Creations who is doing a special offer for $45. Dunno about delivery, but it won't be much to the UK. The basic unit is the one at the bottom of this page: http://shop.sunsetorangecreations.com/main.sc

I bought the far more expensive 3 way Exhaust Commander because I needed the additional feature of being able to keep the valves CLOSED at all rpms so it can pass the Noise Nazi limits that exist at most UK circuits.

If your car is otherwise standard, you don't need that. Mine has a different cam, exhaust manifolds and sport cats, which all add to the noise, but I would hardly say it was noisy. (Unlike Eric's which is offensive!)

The simple on/off $45 remote is a simple 5 min DIY install (you just need a 7mm socket to undo the earth screw), but mine was far more complicated with wiring needed to the rear vacuum units.

However, Ian Goss used his extensive Corvette knowledge and managed to get it done in a couple of hours.

The unit works perfectly, mine being set up to give me the choice of Full Open, Full Closed, or RPM Open (currently set at 2000rpm which is just clear of the "drone zone".)

Excellent service by both Sunset Orange Creations and Ian Goss Services! thumbup

It's a remote control so you can open the exhaust valve on your Z06 (or 2008 C6) at all engine speeds.
As stock they only open at 3500rpm, but it sounds much nicer when it is open at idle, however at about 1400-1800rpm you get an unpleasant resonance or drone which is particularly noticeable in 6th gear at low motorways speeds.

Pressing the remote lets the valves close as standard hence removing the drone.

Mild 2 Wild is made by a company called Nakid Parts in the US and retails for $90, the Sunset Orange one I linked to above is exactly the same but currently sells for $49. Both are easy to fit.

Eric, I also like offensive. My Holden GTSR is very offensive, (it was used for part of the soundtrack in juiced 2 ). My Z06 has got the mild to wild, but compared to the Holden it sounds more like mild to well, er, slightly less mild. Do you mind telling me what you have done? I would love a ground shaking breakthrough....

Hi Titan,

Well, the Lingenfelter performance upgrade included new headers which greatly increased the dbs. That was nice and loud.

Then good old 'Pete Solid' said "you wanna cut the back boxes off"

Hmmm sounds like a plan, so we did. The weight of those things coming off must have made it the lightest Corvette in England hehe. They were replaced with 2 resonators, more like baked bean cans really smile Result, thunder on wheels... awesome. Only problem is after a 10 minute journey I'm as deaf as a post. Ayyy ??

PS. Mild to Wild doesn't work, it's just Wild to Obscene hehe evil

I disagree. I think you should buy a set of B&B Fusions so you can get a nice noise with the option of making it semi-civilised for cruising etc.

I'm amazed the Noise Gestapo haven't pulled you over yet!

Also for us is the ability to get into tracks that have noise restrictions.

Hi Eric, it looks like the rear boxes are the only silencers on the car. By replacing them with (resonators?) does this mean you end up with virtually a straight through exhaust? (Which is what I have on the GTSR). Have you kept the original tail pipes and if so do the butterfly valves on the inner pipes still work and do they make any difference to the sound?
Erm, now i am going to show my ignorance. Godzilla said buy a set of B&B fushions, I have no idea what this is, so I googled it and was given a selection of guest houses in Dorset. Any chance of enlightenment?

I put electronic cutouts on the C5 recently. I would best describe the sound as ranging from a whisper quiet stock burble, to an all out straight through Armageddon style racket with more popping and banging than I can shake a stick at, resonance which makes me wish the world would end, and a sound which can be heard in neighbouring towns. Perfect and they only cost £250 ish.

I love them as when I want to I just turns them off (which isn't very often)

Sounds like it will sound fantastic!

I remember I spotted you passing our car at Burchetts Green roundabout about a year ago, but it was pretty quite then. Would love to hear it now evil
