Hallo dear Vetters,
My wife and myself (or rather viceversa) are seriously thinking of getting
an 08 Corvette, BUT, these are our questions:

I am having a rather steep entry to my garage, we drove the C6 separately,
we both had a look "under the skirts", but even the C6, in front of the
front axle has plus-minus a hand-wide clearance.
What is feasable? Just take the *under-ground spoilers" away or just get a
test-car and find out to our risk?;-)
(My actual SLK 55 had to be upped againg on its special Bilstein suspension,
it just scratched its front, fortunately without visible damage ;-))

I am owning my cars at least 4 years, if the thing is right, even more, what are
the long term "problems" to look at?We both know that the dealer is the main
"problem".............(I cannot complain about the actual one,if possible
he'll sell me our favourite Vette :-))

Does anybody know if the "bettered" gear-box does actively help changing-down (blipping)
the gears?

Thank you for your comments.

The front under-side of recent Vettes is designed to scrape along the ground at ramps so you shouldn't suffer damage unless you really plough into something. Yes, ground clearance is very limited.

If your transmission question is about the 6-speed paddleshift auto then so far as I recall there is no automatic throttle blipping. However, as with the 4-speed it can be driven very smoothly if you adjust throttle position during changes (much like a manual).

Yes, the black plastic air dam is deemed a "wear" item and is inexpensive to replace. I think it is in three pieces too, so you only have to eventually replace the corner that grounds out.

To be honest it isn't very visible anyway unless you get down on your knees!

The front air dam does make an awful scraping noise over most bumps - all the more obvious in a convertible. It's very flexible and resistant to damage though. I just take speed bumps very slowly - which can sometimes surprise tailgating hatchbacks.

Hi Rainer

As you may know I used my C5 on a lot of Driving Adventures routes and I
also have a very steep drive and whilst the scrapping sound of the front
'under fin' does worry you when you first hear it, but it is there to protect
and does a great job. yes

I've yet to see if the C6 is as low, but from the tours in America, I'd have
to say the C6 grounds out a lot less.

As for transmission, I was 100% going for a manual this time until I tried the
paddle shift and was amazed at the reaction time, so now I feel I have the
best of both worlds, auto with the additional control of gearing for shall
we say, the more 'sporty' moments! hehe

Hope to see you in a Corvette on a tour sometime soon. yes

Thats because the C6 has a shorter nose than the C5
