Comparing (Mum's) C5 with the C4
Discussion
Well, had the honour of the parents visiting today, and they came up in this:
Mum was gracious enough to let me have a go, and, in short, yes, very nice!
By way of comparison between the C4 and the C5:
HUD is excellent, in fact, to the point where GM may has well have turned the dashboard bit where the dials are into another storage box!
Actually, despite being conventional vs the early C4 digital, the C5 dash is quite an attractive device, DIC is really clear too.
On the go, the C5 performance is probably best described as 'effortless' - it'll put the speed on when you want it (and seemedly take it off too), and it has lots of potential for licence loss - 60 really does feel like 30 and 30, well it feels like walking pace...
...however I think we both agreed that this is a double edged sword. For normal drivingthe C5 doesn't have the same level of drama as a C4, although not helped by the quietness of the stock C5.
Ride on the C5 is excellent, not as harsh as a C4 (certainly lots softer than a Z51 or early C4!)
C5 doesn't boast the collection of squeaks and rattles you can enjoy in the C4.
Sad to see her old C4 convertible go, but the C5 does improve and move on so much from the C4 (perhaps in one or two areas too much!) - GM's efforts with moving the generation on between the 4th and 5th are clearl evident in most areas.
Not to do the C4 down though, I love mine and all it's 'character' points! I'll always love the Road and Track quote about the C4, being like an F16 and 'not suitable for cvilians' - it has sharper edges, whereas the C5 gives an extensive performace envelope that I guess is more accessible.

I don't think I've seen those wheels before, any idea who made them and what size they are ?
Mum says she'll have a look at the tyre sizes tomorrow Tris - don't know about the wheels - apparently they were put on by the previous owner of the previous owner, if you see what I mean!Noticeably smaller tyres than standard, as the tyres are also not in proportion to the standard 245/45/17 front and 275/40/18 rear have you seen any traction control or ABS messages appearing on the DIC ? I make the theoretical diameters of front and rear on your mum's car as 25.087" and 25.027" whereas standard would be 25.681" and 26.661", i.e. the rear diameter ought to be about an inch larger.
