Z06 Lighting and SVA
Discussion
I am just negotiating on a 2004 405 bhp Z06 here in the US to export back home to the UK. The car has 8k miles and is mint. Price is $38k.
I would like to know what experienmce people have had with SVA and the fact thta the standard lights are of course US-style with the indicators in red and combined with braking function. How do you get amber indicators at the rear and the front??

Good choice of car - everything you need to know is here:I would like to know what experienmce people have had with SVA and the fact thta the standard lights are of course US-style with the indicators in red and combined with braking function. The full set of rear lights cluster and wiring loom is available from Ecklers and others.
Rather than using the euro running/parking lights (from Bauer miller) as demonstrated by Lusifers car domain site, its simpler to drill from beneath the indicator cluster etc and pop in a suitable led light and holder (the led bulb will outlive the car). There is no need for a dividing sheet although this can be simply done.
I would however suggest that its vital for you to purchase the column by-pass unit and avoid future problems. My Z06 "locked up" at the SVA test, very embarassing and a fail.
Best of luck.

Thanks all of you for the guidance - very helpful! I'd like to know more about the column bypass mentioned by owenemyr. Also what costs am I looking at for import duties and VAT? Right now I'm budgeting that 50% on top of the pruchase proice of the car should cover shipping, duties, lights and SVA.

at $38k + the about 30% on shipping. taxes etc - you'd be better off buying one in the UK
A low mileage C5 Z06 will be about £25k ok - it will probably work out the same price but at least u avoid the hassle of importing it ?
At the risk of constantly repeating myself from an other thread.A low mileage C5 Z06 will be about £25k ok - it will probably work out the same price but at least u avoid the hassle of importing it ?
There is absolutely no significant price advantage to the shipping of a car more than 2 years old even with the $/£ as it is now, and certainly not a C5.An 07 model Z06 with <3k miles can be bought, shipped, all duties etc paid and sva'd and on the road for £42k
Depreciation is significantly less in the US as a consequence of their low rate purchase tax, and lack of "company car" tax perks. This makes a 3 year old car (or older) an unnatractive proposition, unles its a C5 Z06, and the only reason for the latter is its relative scarcity in the UK, and a greater choice stateside, but there will not be a significant saving, if at all.
