How long to go until the launch of the Z07?
Discussion
However, before the C7 Z06 comes out, there is a new uber-Corvette likely to be announced in January's Detroit motor show, which is the C6 ZR1. This apparently will be a supercharged beast producing 650hp+, and thus be available in the autumn - I'm not going to say 'Fall'!! - of 2008.
If previous trends are anything to go buy, the basic C7 should have 500hp [about equivalent to the existing C6 Z06]... however I'd expect it to be 2010 before a C7 is out... Of course, what the C7 Z06 might be is anyone's guess, and a C7 ZR1?

The ZR1 is expected to be around $100,000 in the U.S.
Now, this is around £50K. You could expect 35% on top of that for import duty, shipping and VAT which would mean around £70K 'do-it-yourself'. Now should GM sell it directly, through the existing dealers, it is unlikely thus to be being sold for less than £70K, I'd estimate more around the £80K mark.

5USA has a point!
If I were in the position to be getting a C6 Z06 next year, I'd be entirely happy with that. Sure, there may be a C6 ZR1 around - and faster - and sure as eggs are eggs, there'll be a C7 probably pushing around the same hp mark as the C6 Z06. And then you might want to wait for the C7 Z06... but hold on! what about the C7 ZR1? Ad infinitem!!
I would look at what car is available, and now: and that's the C6 Z06! Furthermore, Godzilla can advise, you can get quite a few more ponies out of the Z06 anyway if power is of the essence!
There will always be a faster, doubtless lighter and more powerful 'vette coming up - but at the same time, there is always a fast and powerful Corvette available right now!

Thanks for the responses guys. unfortunately i wont be in a position to buy until later next year.
I have kept my cerbera for so long because there is no other TVR that can go faster. Its the 'king' and its a nice feeling that you have the fastest and if something new comes along like the Sagaris, you can always fettle with the ECU, Exhaust, induction & suspension etc to add more power and improve handling. Obviously the vette will be considerably more expensive than the TVR was therefore I don't want to be disapointed that after one year of ownership, a new model comes along which is faster and better balanced etc. I would like to keep the vette for a good few years.

Paul,
I would say that the C6 Z06 if bought new will provide ample security in the 'go faster' department - unless you want to spend more on the new ZR1, which I'm sure will insure you against a more powerful Corvette for a few years!
Consider the previous ZR1: it produced 405hp in 1995, a figure that I believe took GM 7 years to MATCH (never mind exceed!) with the 405hp C5 Z06 of 2002 (the first one C5 Z06 I think was 2001 and 385hp). Having said that, I'm sure that the 385hp Z06 would be quicker than a 405hp ZR1, straight line or handling wise, but in power it only matched it.
If I again recall correctly, it was not until the 2006 Z06 did GM exceed 405hp in a Corvette, in the 505hp Z06!! So someone buying a 1995 ZR1 had 11 years without a more powerful, stock Corvette... that's a fairly decent run!!
Furthermore, if you're concerned about a quick Corvette, then there's obviously some pennies to be spent taking the Z06's 505hp to the 650hp of the ZR1, albeit the latter isn't announced yet, never mind for sale. But it can be done, I'm sure.
There's no doubt that a stock new C6 ZR1 will provide a number of years insurance in terms of being the quickest, most powerful 'vette. But nevertheless, the current Z06 isn't a slouch either.
And finally, my poor old 1991 ZR1 - slightly modded to around the 400hp mark or so - is still a very quick car, looks and sounds great, and is a darn sight quicker than quite a lot of things still on the road ... and that from a nigh-on 20 year old car...

If you have any money saved, buy US dollars with the now! As at 2.01 (the rate I got yesterday) you ain't gonna see much better I don't think. Some institutions will allow you to convert your £ to $'s and then keep them in $'s getting interest on them but you aren't at the mercy of the exchange rate fluctuations.
The ZR1 is going to be a LOT more expensive than a Z06, which will continue alongside it, so you might as well stick to that plan.
Also there are a couple on the 2nd hand market in the mid-£40ks if you want to buy sooner.
I've just come back from a 2 day tour of the Nurburgring and Spa in the company of 20+ TVR owners and every single one of them now has a new-found respect for the Z06 with at least a couple of them seriously looking into buying one!
Ok my car isn't stock, but it blew every other car at Spa into the weeds, including full race 911s, apart from a Radical (which doesn't count in my book) and some mad full race 911 with a 500bhp turbo.
Comfortably outdragged a Murcielago down the Kemel Straight!

Anyone considering selling a black one?
I got the bug last year on my way to Dover en route to LM about 10 miles out. A beautiful red Z06 put up a very good fight. Any one on here? My cerbera is black!
I didn't find many if any in the mid £40K's

I'm sure he would take a mid-£40ks offer.
