If that is the final body and not just another test mule, I think they're going to have trouble shifting many at $100k. It just doesn't look different enough from the Z06.

Nice new rear spoiler though; it's different from the full width spoiler offered as an accessory.

No doubt the hood will be different, but I was expecting the front fascia and rear arches to look more radical than a $70k Z06....

Still, it would uphold the ZR1's reputation as a low volume (i.e. disappointing) seller!

I reckon it must be a ploy to keep the real ZR1 Secret. It's a Z06 with an after market spoiler stuck on the back with a bit of blue tack.

If it really is the ZR1 I guess I'll be waiting for the model after this one then rolleyes

The old ZR1 was never a great departure from the C4 on which it was based, although arguably the rear end treatment was initially different. Didn't seem to cause problems selling that in numbers, despite a cost nearly double that of the standard Vette.

It's a bit inconclusive assuming the apprearance of the U-tube video - GM can go to pretty extreme lengths to not give the game away with their mules - during C5 development there were a number of Corvettes running round with Camaro body panels.

Yeah, I think it's a test mule; no way they would allow such a lightly disguised prototype out on the public road so soon.

But I understand the C4 ZR1 sold way below expected numbers?

I'm betting it's going to be a corker and I've just sent my letter of intent to purchase to Park Lane... wink

I'd be up for swapping the Z06 for a ZR-1 but it'll depend on the final spec once it's known. I don't think carbon brakes are necessary though, other than so that option list anoraks can tell that a Corvette has the same unnecessary and ridiculously expensive parts as Porsches and Fe###ris. All it needs in the braking department (for extended track work, not for the road) is solid vented discs (not drilled) with uprated pads, and maybe some cold air ducting.

I have heard some rumours that the ZR-1 might actually have an engine larger than 7 litres although most rumours point to a 6.2 supercharged unit. Rear tyres are 345/25 x 20s with minitubs to keep them inside the stock arches. I like the fact that it isn't too different to the Z06 in looks, the Z06 looks bloody cool as it is, not too showy, but plenty purposeful.

Does this all mean that Z06's will become de-valued once the new ZR1 come on stream. Bad news for anyone who paid £60+ (and probably still bad news for a few years for us mere mortals who may still want one at non stratospheric prices)

Hi,

Will the ZR-1 be officially sold in Europe, or will they all just be grey market imports? I believe GM changed the C6 Z06 for the European market, side markers, headlight washers...

Thanks,

Ken

Well I hope so as Jame (ParkLane) now has a letter of intent from me for one!
GM aren't even officially acknowledging the car exists yet, but when it does, then yes, I am positive it will be sold in Europe and hopefully the UK too.
