Has anyone actually fathomed the "ways" of the various local DVLA offices, do they have a certain amount of interprative freedomn?.
I have an 07 model C6 built 11/06, titled new in January, and yet a local DVLA office has given it when registered in July a "57" plate, although the log-book relates back to January.
Do they as a routine relate to the title document as first date of registration, but plate the vehicle according to the first date of UK registration.
Of what import/relevance is the build date?
I admit to being confused.

I've known them issue 07 plates instead of 97/P plates & one of our fleet according them is 10 years newer than it should be going by the plate but not the V5 first reg point.

Ass about face springs to mind

The DVLA are a law unto themselves. My first 2003 Z06 no problem they registered it as an '03' as I had bought it new in March eventhough it had a build date of January 2003.
Second 2003 Z06 built 28th Feb 2003 they argued it should be a '52' plate not an '03' eventhough it wasn't first registered until March.with a bought date of mid march.
Eventually had to get a letter from the original dealer stating when the car was originally sold to get them to allow the car to have an '03' plate.

I would say: Don’t be surprised by the competence or otherwise of individual members of staff and their abilities to correctly apply the official policies and procedures of any corporate body. Frequent staff turnover, temporary employees and management of work to arbitrary performance targets all have a compound effect in today’s dysfunctional Britain.

I think I may have progressed from being cynical to being a nihilist !

Leaving aside imports whether from EU or elsewhere I've never understood how DVLA work this out even within UK. On 1 March and 1 September each year the roads are instantly full of new registration cars which have obviously not been "built" after the date of the registration change. Some may have sat in an overflow vehicle park for months before being sold "new". It's one of those mysteries....

Maybe they just have an automatic cut-off a fixed number of months after build. Nah, that sounds much too logical!

God forbid!
Its now time to have a go at HM Customs.
Just received the C&E 386 that is full of inaccuracies including:
Country of origin=Japan (USA)
Port of entry=Southampton (Felixstow)
etc,etc,etc
The form was probably filled by a recently arrived Roumanian!

I have just registered my C6. It was bult July 2005 and first sold / registered in the US Dec 2005. They have given me a 54 plate and I was expecting a 55 !!!! So a plate date before the car was even built !!

I'm going back to the DVLA ofice to hopefully resolve on Friday. Seemed impossible to get to anyone over the phone.

My 2004 CE was April 2004.
I got a 53 plate instead of a 04 plate.
I phoned them up, , might as well talk to the man in the moon,
So i have to provide further proof. and they said they will change it.
I will be doing this after I sorn the car for the winter.
Incompetance !

Well went in this morning. They updated to an 05 plate. Said I can only get a 55 if I can produce a letter from the dealer saying that the car was new when first registered !!!

They said that registration based on model year or build date is the procedure that they are advised to follow. I asked to see these procedures but they aren't written down !!!
