So far only 1 Corvette owner has 'manned up' to take on the Cerberas in the supercar drag event on the 12th Aug. I had hoped to get a new Z06 along, as its a car I aspire to own. Many forums (this one included) has responded with at best a luke warm response to the challenge - guys, what's going on??? The Corvette is an iconic US musclecar, it represents decades of US motorsport heritage, surely a 3/4 mile drag race is right up your street???? Booking closes on the 6th Aug. Also, we have some Vipers coming and a Cobra, oh and a Shelby Mustang GT500. Just need 7 litres of Chevy small block to show them the way home.........................

Hi David, big respect to you, as I'm aware of your awesome Z06 - as I said, I'll have one at some point, they are awesome machines. BTW, do you know Bosscerbera? I would have though you two would have crossed paths in the auto-journalist world??

Anyway, to answer your question, you can freely register on the FT website to see the entry list. As the race list 'master', I will be allocating cars for the first three races, after that its a free-for-all. If you were to come, I would initially match you against either;

1.) Bosscerbera's 5 litres 'special' Cerbie circa 500hp and less weight than your Z06
2.) An Ultima Can Am circa 600 hp and even less weight.
3.) Mercedes SL BiTurbo circa 500+hp, huge torque
4.) Noble GTO 3R circa 560hp

I can't lie to you about your chances, but you have my sympathies wink

Failing that you can be lined up against the "warm up car" BMW 335D.......

Dear Longbow,

I have already explained I can't make your event as unfortunately it clashes with a prior Corvette engagement. This does not mean I am running scared. Didn't see any TVRs at Ten of the Best at Elvington on Sunday, obviously 1/4 mile drag, 1 mile top speed run and a handling course wouldn't suit a Cerbera............in fact I have been to TOTB for 4 of the 6 years and have never seen a TVR.
I have spent time in the company of BossCerbera around Silverstone GP circuit and I can assure you that my Corvette will stick with Boss all day long.

Dear chap, TOTB is a MODIFIED CAR competition - most cars there have very little standard parts left on them!! FT is meant to be for factory standard 'supercars'. Yes, there are a few modifieds running, but 85% are as standard as can be expected. Any standard car would get creamed at TOTB, a Z06 included.

Not wishing to add to the bun fight, but are not all the cars you 'bate' with non standard?

Good point - these are the cars I see giving even a Z06 a clean pair of pipes. I honestly think a Z06 might be one of the fastest standard cars there, I really do. The fastest standard Cerbera is around 440hp, with a kerb weight of around 1250kg, so it might be close with a Z06. All the runs will be timed, and so for comparison purposes you can neglect the modifieds.

How do you think a Z06 would do against a new Viper??

Sorry to pick you up again, but as an ex Cebera owner (had 2) there are
no 'standard' cars pushing out those figures?

My 4.5, advertised at 420bhp, actually only hit 348 at a rolling road day and
was placed mid field.

Only those with the Emerald, Joospeed mods etc hit the high 390s and while those
figures have obviously increased in time and development, none can be classed
as "factory standard"?

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to knock the Cerbera, far from it, it's a
totally awesome car and I'd have another tomorrow if I could have the luxury
of a 'stable' of cars. yes

Um....since when has BossCerbera been "standard"?

TOTB has some very modified cars but they are all road legal with tax, MOT, insurance and running on road legal E marked tyres.

So, I've had a look through the site and a few points spring to mind:

- how many runs do you anticipate each car getting?

- is performance only being measured at the 3/4 mile mark? I think a lot of people would also like to know their 1/4 mile time, as saying "I ran an x.xx 3/4 mile" will mean nothing to anyone

- your lack of non-TVRs attending suggests that your recruitment/marketing technique, however tongue-in-cheek, does not seem to be working that well... wink

- I'll come if I can get a ride in an Apache
