You will find most of the chat here is taken up by C5 & C6 owners, not their fault but rather the lack of posts from owners of earlier cars, sad really.

Thanks for the response.

Don't know where or even if they hang out anywhere. Nothing on Classic corvette forum either.

Yup its holiday time and they are all off with their buckets and spades. Mind you with all that shocking weather in UK, I dont blame them. I hope it improves for when I'm home in a couple of weeks, loads to do to the vette!

Personally I have always wanted a midyear, but everytime I get my head around the asking prices for these cars, they go up £5 grand !
These cars are destined to be garage queens as who is really going to enjoy chucking one of these cars around a roundabout sideways when you have just paid £30k for it !! I think the yank muscle car market is heading for a rather large adjustment (remember E-types in the eighties and nineties - £20k-£75k-£20k ! ) Buying a mustang or a 440 RT charger was made all the more fun by the fact that you could buy a corker for £7k ! what has changed (apart from the Barrett-Jackson effect) to make these cars so valuable all of a sudden, have they suddenly become fuel economic ? is it the fact that you can save a whole £190 on road tax ? every year.
When all the suckers who have bought their $100k Imapalas and million dollar vettes because it got them on the speed channel get bored with their retro fashionable "whips" and start selling them at knock down prices,we mere mortals might get a chance to get into a mass produced car that was originally aimed price wise at us.
Read Jay Leno's column in Octane a few months back,as he said, why would you pay $50k for an 50's Plymouth Belvedere at the Scottsdale gig when you can buy much the same just around the corner for $10k in downtown LA.
You may wonder what the hell this has to do with midyear corvettes in the UK but I hope for my sake at least sanity returns and then I can finally go out and buy the car I have hankered after for 15 Years !!!

Phil....Is that your car at Dart?

60's Muscle car prices are going up because I guess they're in vogue at the moment. US cars have been unloved for ever and it's only now that people realise that there is something else out there rather that the normal classic Jags and mercs etc.

I think they're increasing justifiably....it's about time they were put on the map. Timing is probably down to the age generation.....the likes of me and you that always hankered when we were nippers and can now afford to fullfill the dream of ownership at whatever level.

Iconic films like Bullit help values such ans 68 Chargers and Mustangs.

C2 Stingrays are relatively rare I guess in the UK especially....so it's a supply and demand thing.

Yes, thats mine and now you know why its known as Big Green. Its sort of for sale as I also have the Le Mans C5 but I still love the C2 to bits. Its been completely rebuilt and has a few, amongst other things, suspension upgrades and handles really well. I took it round Bruntingthorpe and really by the lateral support of the standard seats and the skill of the driver!

You can get C2's for the high teens and low twenties but be prepared to spend lots on them. Believe me I know from personal experience since what started as a light refurb turned into a full nut and bolt, body off rebuild over two years!! Still that's Corvettes, they get into the blood. As for price, like anything the market will decide.

There are a few for sale at the moment and the cheapest of these is about £30k and it's not even a matching numbers car. I would love one of these but at the prices I'm seeing at the moment it could just remain a dream. Surely if people are serious about selling these cars the prices will have to drop, or are there that many people out there with this sort of money who want one enough to pay these prices?

It's all governed by supply and demand. When I was looking I had no choice but to buy literally the 1st and only car I could find. Nassau blue 66 427 Rdstr.

Phil......dart seem to know their stuff.....I'm gonna pop down there later. Did they do the repaint on yours?

I dont believe we are going through a classis car price bubble, certainly nowhere near the scale of the 80's nad I dont know where v8yae gets that idea from. I've been watching Vette pricing for about 10 years now and I think the cost increases are on a par with other classic marques of similar status. As for being able to get an E type for 20k...I wish! You could probably get a restoration project for that, but not a lot more.

As you are probably aware...there are E types and there are E types.

If you look for a comparable E Type then it'd have to be a S1 Coup or rdstr probably 4.2. These are THE most desirable of E Types and a decent car is likely to be 35k up to 60+ . So I think it's a case that the Sting Ray has been undervalued and pretty much a secret.

The Public generally don't know what it is. I get so many people ask me and the admiring glances are constant. (particularly from Women) But then that could be me. wink

Just found this one for £30k. Whoever did this to the interior needs castrating at the very least.

The one thing that confuses me is the fact that if you look at certain specialist corvette dealers websites you will see the same cars for months and in some cases YEARS !!!
What I am trying to say is that its not a true indication of the market, otherwise these cars would have sold surely ?
This encourages private owners to think their cars are worth the same or close and then its stalemate.
There is a mid-year doing the rounds at the moment for £30k or so,the same car was ebayed successfully (and quickly) for around £22k some months earlier.Thats the point,if they sell at £22k and not £30k then the true value is nearer the former.Don't confuse "for sale " figures with "sold for " figures, there is a world of difference. The E type analogy I admit was badly stated it should have been more like....
E-type flat floor roadster £20-£75k-£40k still an adjustment though....

This is partly the point I was trying to make earlier, how serious are some of these people about selling their cars?

Again certain specialist Corvette dealers leave sold cars on their website to attract you in as it were and some have cars being sold on a commission basis. There is also one that is just downright expensive! No names, no pack drill!

BTW You will get a lot more attention from the ladies in a Vette!wink

When I bought mine (feb 06) there were none around. There seem to be more around for sale now albeit no big blocks.

I think you hit the nail there.....They tend to be sold on an SOR bases. The trader doesn't actually have his own money tied up so there is no urgency for moving it on.

It will be intresting to see what the 2 Coys cars make when auctioned...this will be a true indicator as to real values.

Someone pointed out to me that the red 64 roadster at Coys that has lots of history and is very original (apparently) has in fact got 65-66 front wings on it. Do these accommodate the after market sidepipes better or is there a more interesting reason?

DART did most of the work but the repaint was contracted out to a specialist, as was the engine rebuild. If you're interested ask Steve and he'll show you the photo's of the rebuild, the reciepts and the Chevy promo brochure it was featured in. If he's got a video player he can show you the Top Dog TV show where it was featured. PM me if you want to talk some more.

Apart from the badging '65,'66 and '67's have side louvres that extract engine heat, whereas '63's and '64's don't. Clearly the Coys '64 is'nt original if it has the later wings on.
